Default Fat, On'ry, and Mean

Well, sometimes lonesome, too, but not so much.

Perhaps there's a lesion on my will power nerve, perhaps it's the fatigue, perhaps I'm just lazy. So I KNOW I'm not getting enough "beneficial" exercise. I can't get moving fast enough to get the old heart rate going without falling.

I'm frustrated when I'm determined actually to "exercise" but I'm so pooped after grocery shopping and getting lunch that honking my nose seems like aerobic exercise. It's not that I don't know HOW.

Last time I was at the neuro's, he said to me (with a straight face) "Maybe you could walk one mile in the morning, and one mile in the afternoon to help you get in shape."

I wanted to bang my head against the wall, then lie down on the floor and cry, then bite somebody. Hey, would that be considered exercise?

When I read your title I thought you were talking to ME.

I hate any kind of excercise to begin with and mix fatigue in there and who can move even if you want to?

Going through the change is not helping. all I wanna do lately is eat, cry, and bite the head off whoever looks at me cross-eyed. Not a good time to have to go through all of my belongings, get rid of things, pack up and leave my home of 20 years, leave my family. I'm not a huge sentimentalist, but....

Already feeling like a dead fish being beaten on the rocks, i'm in no mood for those twiggy 20 yr old snots jumping around doing Jazzersize or the zen goddesses in the pretzel poses of yoga. Take your *happy shmappy it feels so good to tie yourself in a knot* attitude and jump off a cliff with it, okay sister?

There will come a time when I will be up to taking better care of me - maybe. I'll feel more like a walk, or a few leg lifts or something. Until then, I feel better if I do my hair, maybe put on a little make-up - I never bothered. Whos gonna notice? Well, I I do and I feel a little better if I look better.

You do what helps you through this, okay? If you find sitting in a cool place with some good music helps, or fruit refreshes you, you do that. Be good to you. Go with your gut. When you feel like doing more you will. When you need rest, rest.

When you have an ounce of energy, let the house go and do something for you, not a mile, but a block. shop for something nice, there's your excercise.

And kicking that doc in the shins does count toward your excercise goal.

I totally understand and agree. I drag myself out of bed every morning, put in 8 hours of work, come home and fix dinner, clean up afterward. If there are dishes in the dishwasher I put them away or clean up the kitchen which is always dirty and then I am exhausted.

I was thinking the other day that I am not doing much walking because I get so tired. I am afraid that I will lose the use of my legs if I do not get more active. I thought of going for a walk but the fear of getting somewhere and not having the energy to get home stops me. For the time being I decided to just get out of the car more when we are running errands and do a little more walking that way.

I fell so lazy. I used to be able to do so much more and never feel the least little but tired. Now I spend so much time sitting down that I can't stand myself. Stairs are expecially hard. I realized today that part of the problem is my knees so I may be getting some arthritis. Let's make things worse.

Enough of my rant. Sometimes the best we can do is the best we can do. Just don't give up.

actually I saw the title and thought of my sister...but thats another story.

I too was in that spot of not being able to make the mailbox, and tripping and falling before my heart rate could get up to speed. I did a cardiac stress test, and they were amazed at how quickly my heart raced up to level. I only took 3 mins on the tread mill, and they had their results. I was worried I would need a chemical stressor.

I got one of those mini trampolines, and started walking in place. I got one of those bike pedal things that sits on the floor, and started biking while watching TV. I got those rubber band things, and tied them to the door knob and did some stretching. I made the effort to get to the mailbox everyday. the walk was sweaty and exhausting. Slowly I worked up to walking across the street, and then back to the mailbox, and then home. I would get more comfy with that, and would extend the walk by another ten feet in any direction, and then back home. on days when I felt I just couldnt, I didnt try.

Please dont beat yourself up about your shape, size or stamina. Take lil tiny bites out of an exercise routine. if its too hot, then find something inside to do. Lift soup cans from the cabinet while watching TV. Tie a exercise rubber to the coffee table, and pull and release while sitting down. then tie one to your leg. Dont aim for 30 minutes. that is way to much. Aim for 2 minutes. if you do well, tomorrow go for 3. Then for 4. Before you know it, you will be doing 5 minutes of stretches, and then will work on 1 minute of walking. then 2.

Then, come back here and get some cheerleading, and pats on the back. If you can do it hurray! and if you cant, hurray! we are gonna be cheering for you because you tried.

(((B2Y))) I don't worry too much about the big cardio workout. I have teenagers and that provides plenty of cardio exercises. LOL

Right now it is way to hot in this blazing desert to do anything outside. So, my "exercise" consists of stretching in the a.m. and p.m. and making housework my workout. I do simple things like taking lunge steps, big steps, or lots of little steps when putting stuff away and things like that.

Shoes being left out are a big thing here. UGH! Instead of gathering up the girls flip flops and bringing them to their room at one time, I do them individually. (Although, when I am "On'ry" I sure as heck feel like just throwing them. LOL) Well, I just looked and there is only 1 pair in the living room so today when I clean that will only be 1 trip to their room.

I never go for distance. I go for time. When it is cooler out in the a.m. and even the evenings I will walk anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. I walk around my building now as that way if I get too fatigued I am close to home.

The Wii Fit is getting great reviews for not only the general public but health professionals. They are now using them in rehab facilities, PT, nursing homes, etc. Check it out as a possibility for you. I was saving for one but needed to use that $30 for something else - 2 years worth of saving for me. There are a few members here who have one and love them and have been getting good results with it.

In the meantime, hang in there.

What is difficult for me is knowing WHAT to do.

I need a personal trainer who would come to the house and have me do a routine that would actually benefit my particular issues. But being that my wallet is not thick, that is not an option.

When I do my crunches and leg lifts, etc. I can hurt back through the effort. It feels like a no-win situation.

I stretch but not enough, I am sure.

I did try to go to DH's fitness club. Took my walker so that I could do a stretch class. It was supposed to be for all types, me being a beginner. MOST embarrassing! Good thing I can laugh. I could not do a darn thing. She ended the class early because of me.

I eat right, I love fruit and vegetables. But the exercise routine leaves much to be desired.

I'm stickin' to salads during this 100 degree weather. That's gonna have to do.

The frustrating thing is that I KNOW what to do, I just don't want to do it. And I don't have the energy to CARE that I don't want to. Know what I mean?

Note to self: SNAP OUT OF IT!!!
