That is one reason the pool is sooo good for MS people. If you "fall" in the pool, you cannot get hurt! Plus, it keeps your body core temp nice and cool while you moe around. Your neuro does not seem to appreciate that when he recommends walking: some of us (me included) don't do well with walking (and Yet I can swim a mile).

One of our popular MS people, Cherie (clinical1) was a doubting Thomas about the pool. BUt, she decided to give it a whirl. She made up her own routines of stretching in the pool. She was amazed at how much better she felt after a short time-- and she was able to shed her wheelchair as well, which is wonderfully amazing.

So, perhaps there is a good public pool near enough to you. We really do have to control our wellness. Lack of motion makes the MS symptoms much worse, it makes balance much worse as the muscles that help with balance atrophy from disuse.

When I began to swim in 04, I could not walk across the room without getting winded. Now, I can swim a mile daily. I know not everyone will be able to swim a mile, but almost everyone, who has access to a pool, can sit in the pool and just move around. Even people who have obesity can move around in a pool and get fit, despite the obesity...

Add me to the list of not wanting to do anything lately. However, I do try to make myself do my gentle Yoga - I shoot for at least 4 or 5 days out of a week, but somtime only make it 3 days.

I cannot swim, and I would have to go to a public pool. We have a pool in the Townehouse community where I live and it is quite close, but I do not go in. It is just too hot here. And to force myself to get in the car and drive to an indoor pool is more than I can do, at least often enough. Sooo, I do gentle Yoga to a DVD. Been doing that same tape for nine years. I think I will order another one tonight, and maybe vary things a little. After my Yoga, I try to do about 15 knee bends.

Wouldn't it be great to have the energy to get and go everyday? I miss that.

Well B2Y you have a lot of company on this issue, including me .

Being depressed and a bit lonely since I went on LTD has been a definite demotivating factor for me. I have packed on some major poundage lately .

My neuro's assistant wants me to see a personal trainer, lol. I'll get right on that as soon as I win the powerball lol.

My high school reunion is on August 8th. I've found a nice, slimming not so little black dress to wear along with my super powerful Spanx undergarments. Supposedly i'll look 10 ponds thinner. I was hoping for 30 or 35 . I'm betting people will be thinking "aw, look at the poor fat girl with the walker".

Sorry about the sarcasm but I think the FL heat has made crankier than usual.

I got a yoga dvd and the reviews were spot on. Very easy even for a novice, out of shape, lots of balance and pain issues. Really helped.

Or if you have cable, there are quite a few shows you could try. Most of them, I find way too tough to follow. but I will try to do the easiest things they show. Hey, it's not much but it's something. Namaste is one of my faves.

I do go through those times though, when I just don't wanna, just don't have the energy, and really don't care to get up and move - in any way.



Then I just sit on my keister and eat chocolate. The heck with it.

Thanks Brain. I will go to our local library and check out a yoga DVD. Can't hurt and it is free. (I love government programs)

Great suggestion. So obvious and makes me shake my head wondering why I did not think of it myself!

And I have a DVR. I can just as easily record a few shows and see which one suits me best.

The best exercise for those of us with MS is swimming! You don't feel the heat and you can really get your heart going and it's fun. Give it a try. Molly

I agree. I have a pool I just have not had the time to get in the thing, and that honks me off, lol. I love splashing around. Thing is, even if it's 110 out that'll keep me halfway cool - and who says you hafta be out there in the heat of the day? I'll light it up and go at night sometimes.

I've just been up to my eyeballs with packing and fixing stuff, babysitting, sick dogs, hurt knee, painting, messed up cars and moving boxes and furniture. My house is like a one-woman Survivor show.

Haven't had time to wash my clothes much less go swimming.



I could vote myself off anytime now...
