Default Immuran and sudden nausia

Hello,

I was on cellCept for about 6 months and it never really did anything for me, and my symptoms actually started to get worse. About four weeks ago my doctor suggested that I try Immuran. I weaned off the CellCept and over the course of three weeks I worked my way up to 150mg of Immuran a day. About 4 days ago (second week on full 150mg dose) I started to get really bad nausea in the mornings about an hour after taking my meds. I have actually thrown up each morning, which really sucks. My last blood test, which was two weeks ago, came back fine... Any one have any similar experiences?

Meds:

150mg Immuran
100mg Pred every other day
180mg Mestanon (TimeSpan) each night
60mg Metstanon 3x's a day

28 Year old
Male
Orlando, FL

I'm sorry, John, I don't have experience with those drugs. I hope you will call your neuro and ask what you can do. Throwing up is not fun and it is really tough on the esophagus.

You are on a LOT of Pred too. What Pred does is to reduce the gel coating of the stomach. It's an antiprostaglandin. So, you need good prostaglandins like omega 3's to keep that gel coating in tact.

Geez, taking Pred makes you gain weight and taking Imuran makes you lose it from puking. Not a fun drug combo. It's like having drug induced bulimia!

Sorry, I wish I could help. And I'm sorry you aren't doing well so that you have to take so many drugs.

Hi John,

I'm with Annie, I would call your neuro and talk about it.

I use to take imuran pred and both mestinon, and always woke up in the mornings vomiting. It lasted for about 18 months, then I went off my timespan, and that seemed to help. I also started taking probanthine, which was my saving grace.
I now take cellcept, mestinon and pred, and still go through stages where I get very nauseous, I think my body just gets sick of all those meds.
Hope you get some answers soon
take care
Kate

I was also on Cellcept for about six months. It didn't seem to do anything. So I was started on Imuran 50 mg. I stayed at that dose for over a month and then my doctor told me to double it. 6 days later I was extremely nauseous, fever, chills, body ache. After a few days of that I looked up Imuran side effects and they are exactly what I was experiencing. I went to urgent care and they ruled out Influenza. So now I can't take Imuran.

Hey John,

Sorry you're having to go through this with your meds and getting so sick. I don't take anything but Mestinon so I really can't comment on those. Only to say it seems many here have said it can take a year for Cellcept to start working, but as you said you were starting to feel worse. I hope your neuro can get to the bottom of it and get you on the right combination of meds and strengths you need. Take care and keep us posted.

Hugs,
Pat
