Thumbs down MG and oral health

Hello all! Quick question; have any of you lost your teeth due to MG?
I had 16 caps/crowns put on my teeth 10 years ago and have had over 30 root canals to date. I truly believe that I have had this disease for 10 years - otherwise why would I have to have 2-4 follow up root canals?
NOW I am losing my caps/crowns all together! I have lost 3 recently - all in the back - and am considering implants. I DO have Dr. I's permission to have a few implants b/c I don't want to walk around toothless.
Th reason I am asking this is I met another woman with similar problems, except she is now completely toothless!
I ALWAYS had healthy teeth until the caps were put on - not one cavity ever!
I was told by one dentist that my MG is causing all of my tooth problems - YUCK!
Anyone else going through this?
Thanks
Erin

The prednisone will also aggravate the dental issues - it eats bones and teeth. Have you had a bone scan lately?

Hey Erin,

I remember you mentioning that you were very anemic before...I'm anemic, and I've noticed that my gums are very pale, and have white spots on them...My dentist says that it's from having low hemoglobin...Also, with the smoking, there's less blood-flow to the teeth...So those two things together might be enough to weaken the teeth...I also agree that the prednisone wont help in the calcium depot.

I've come across other people who have MG and teeth problems as well...I don't think that anemia was a problem for them, so there's prolly more to it than that...

I remember a poster on here talking about mestinon and pop...He said that mestinon changes the amount and quality of saliva in the mouth...I can relate to this...I found that my mouth gets dry and it makes me want to drink pop...Sugary drinks and a dry mouth is prolly a bad combo...It prolly increases the amount of critters in the mouth, which can lead to tooth decay...Dry mouth in-of-itself can cause tooth decay, if you have it...

Nicky

I'm wondering can you get help with implants, or a partial since it can be caused by prednisone or MG??

Teeth HI Tracy!

Hello sweetie! I AM getting a few implants @ the Health Science Center - I will be their first patient with MG so I am getting their "top" fella - I am sooooo excited! On the positive side, none of the missing teeth are noticeable...

How are YOU doing? Are you feeling strong today?

Love,
Erin

Heart Hi Nicky!

Hello sweetheart! I do struggle with the way my body deals with iron - it doesn't store it properly, so I take iron pills daily.....

I haven't had a soda in 17 months - though I used to drink 12 a day! Yuck!

Enough about me - how are YOU feeling? Are you feeling better?

Love,
Erin
