Hey guys,
I'm just wondering if anyone was succesful in getting long term disability through their work insurance for MG? My speech is really bad, and I can't go back to my regular duties because of it. It also affects my arms and hands big time now, so I can't really do any manual work. Has anyone applied for long term disability through their work, and was denied? I'm worried about this now...Especially because sometimes my speech is okay, but within minutes becomes dysarthric. What if they try to say the illness isn't enough to affect my speech, even though it clearly is? Like some kinda technicality... Thanks, guys! Nicky |

My GP told them that chronic fatigue due to MG was making it impossible for me to be working. They will try to tell you it isn't bad enough, your response has to be that your GP and/or neuro disagrees and for medical reasons you cannot be working at this time. Always indicate to them that you "Want to be working, but cannot due to your medical condition." As soon as you tell them anything that indicates it is a preference situation that has you out on LTD they'll try to find a loop hole that will force you back before you're better. |

Thanks, Brennan, and sorry that it took so long to reply- I cut off my internet, and I've been going to an internet cafe intermittently... I definately let them know that I really want to back to work, but that the speech problems make it difficult, plus the exhaustion from everything... Thanks for your advice Nicky P.S. did your LTD cover your medications, or did you have to pay out-of-pocket? |

I was able to go on disability for my MG 19 years ago when I was DXed but when I went into remission I went off it. I don't know how you would go about it since I don't know how it works in Canada. I wish you luck.
