What was your blood pressure120/80 and heart rate before and after treatment started.
If you can add additional information like drug regime ,how you feel before and after treatment started,it may help others. In the Uk what is normal is what your health trust has set the limits at for your gp. In my case they not treat below 140/90 for bottom line reasons . The trust works out how many people it would have to treat if the level was 120/80 and decides it is too many so move the normal level until you get the proper number of people to treat for the money available. |

Patrick, I noticed your VERY high pulse in one of your posts last night. That is not normal if it is not YOUR normal. And it's pretty high to be anyone's normal really.
Your high BP and pulse could be for many reasons. Have you seen a cardiologist? I'm frankly worried because you went from such a high dose of Pred down to almost nothing very quickly. That's dangerous!!! You've been on it long enough for your adrenals to not do their job. Please get someone to figure this out soon. My cardiologist, who is very smart and kind, said to me that the brain and heart don't care what the cause is for a high BP. It adversely effects them and can cause stroke or heart attack, not to mention kidney problems. 120/80 is a very good target and, yes, the docs over here in the U.S. consider that to be the top of normal. For good reason. I hope you can get this taken care of! Annie |

HUH???? UK decides what "normal BP" is according to how much money there is to treat the condition?? Surely I am misunderstanding this!!!

normal'. ( or 4 or 7% etc) So too bad if you fall into the 6% range in 1995 to find out they change the range in 1997 but don't tell you ( as happened to me re Hypothyroid) For eg - TSH for thyroid in UK is set at >5 or even 10 but many labs in Europe, Aust and USA set > 3.3 ... ( normal TSH is about 1) In UK thyroid meds are 'free' ... so they raised the TSH range so less people can get them! Its all about money ..not health.. |

Sooooooooooo, "theoretically", a person with MG -- who tested POSITIVE to the AChR tests or MuSK tests -- and WOULD be diagnosed WITH MG in the US -- might NOT be given a diagnosis in UK -- because the cut-offs might be higher in order to save money?
MG, after all, CAN be VERY expensive to treat -- IF prednisone doesn't work.

It's the same in Canada. Hypothyroid TSH is >5.00 as well. Mine has been 4 and over in the past, but has never reached 5, so I've never been considered 'hypo.' even with these numbers (and all the symptoms). The situation's kinda bad.

SPOKE TO MY PHARMACIST TODAY WHO SAID 140/80 WAS NORMAL UNTIL I REMINDED HER OF HER CLINACAL TRAINING.
SHE ADMITTED THE NICE GUIDLINES FOR GPS AND PHARMICISTS IS DO NOT TREAT PRE HYPOTENSION 145/80 AND BELOW . wAIT UNTIL YOU ARE HYPOTENSIVE AND THEN TREAT THE PATIENT AS THERE IS NOT ENOUGH MONEY TO SPREAD AROUND TO TREAT TO 120/80 STAFF NURSE IN THE HOSPITAL TONIGHT COMMENTED THEY HAVE TO SET A LIMIT SOMEWHERE. *edit* NOT NEED BUT ABILITY OF GOVERNMENT TO PAY.
