Hey Kathy,

I didn't have radiation after my Thymectomy, but I wanted to wish you luck with your second opinion. So sorry you may have to go through it, but maybe the second doctor will feel differently. Take care.

Hugs,
Pat

Frown 2nd opinion confirmed radiation treatments

Well, I went for my 2nd opinion from another radiation oncologist. He agreed that I should get radiation treatments.

So, I'm moving forward. Have my first appointment set up for this coming week where there do a CT scan to help "map out" exactly where they are going to target the radiation. Treatments will probably begin the week after that. Will have between 25-30. I just want to get it over with. We're supposed to go away on vacation the last week in March to Hilton Head and this will give me about 2 weeks to recover somewhat. I had to cancel 4 weeks of vacation last year because of my MG, and I don't want it to steal away another week. At least in Hilton Head I can take it easy since we go there often.

Best of luck. Ask your oncologist about radiation pneumonia and the signs you need to watch for and what he/she wants you to do if the signs present. Make sure you get lots of nutrition in, you probably won't feel like eating when you're undergoing therapy (carnation instant breakfast, ensure, boost all help get calories and nutrients in... I liked having a mix of all three available). Tell your oncologist immediately if you have actual trouble swallowing, that can be a sign of burning in your esophagus.

I really hope everything goes smoothly for you and you can enjoy your trip in March.

Cheers,

Brian.
