stopped taking pred at christmas over two weeks and mestinon.
i have been experiencing pulsating pains in both shoulders over the last two or three weeks making it difficult to sleep.
Anybody any similar experiences or thoughts.

Hi, There is a strong possibility that it's inflamation. When Prednisone is stopped, we can feel a lot of pain. Usually it will go away, or lesson.
I'm trying to remember what I was told, when they were thinking of stopping mine. If you had any undiagnosed inflamation issues, they'd come back in full force, and probably double the pain. Can't remember why. I never went off of Prednisone, so we never got that far.
I just remembering them saying it.

Sorry, but I've never taken Pred so I can't help you there. Will you be seeing one of your doctor's in the very near future? If not, maybe you should call one and try to get an appointment for as soon a possible. That's a long time to be having that much pain. I hope you find out what is causing it and you get some relief soon. Take care and let us know how you're doing.

Prior to starting prednisone, I had suffered from very bad joint pain for years...Just prior to having my thymectomy, i noticed that this pain was going away...I started taking prednisone after my surgery...I feel pretty sure that the prednisone has kept the joint pain at bay, although it's possible that something else changed that caused the pain to lessen (I didn't start taking the prednisone until a couple of weeks post-surgery).

However, I developed new pains in my back that the prednisone does not seem to treat. I feel pretty sure that the prednisone has actually caused this pain, but my other joint pain has not returned to the extent it was at before.

I'm currently tapering off of my prednisone, and have notice a bit of resurfacing of my joint pain. I'm tapering slowly, so I can handle it...I think that tapering too quickly can be tough in terms of pain-tolerance...

It is not unusual to have body aches after prednisone withdrawal; this can last for a while. Depending on how long you were on steriods, an underlying arthritis may have developed and was masked under the reign of the roids.
