Heart Prednisone kick in period

Greetings!

To my knowledge prednisone starts to work in about 2-6 weeks but his true potential develops in several months.

How long did it take for you to get significant, that means more than 50% improvement with you symptoms? (and if you could please note you dosage regime)

Hope you reply.

Best regards to all.

Tom

Tom,

Welcome!
I have not had to take pred yet - - but you will get responses from many here who have (or do) take pred. Sometimes it takes a little longer for folks to respond on weekends...keep checking back.

Hi Tom,

I started my pred at 5 mg, and increased 5mg a week, until I got to 15mg. I tried to see the lowest level that would work for me as to reduce side effects...I upped to 20 mg in Nov. and tried to go to 25 mg in Dec, but 25 is just too much for my body...I keep getting infections. I saw the benefit pretty quickly after I got to each dose. I had about a week of exacerbated weakness from upping my dose...and then sometimes I would get an infection right away, so I would have to wait a while for that to settle down...but generally I would see the full benefit by the 3rd week.
hope this helps! Stay strong!
Jess

Hello Tom,
I started at 10 mg/d for a week and was very weak for several days then increase by 10 mg each week till 50 which I kept for a month. Due to the lack of results for my muscular weakness, I was upped to 60 and finally to 75 which was the maximum dosage for my weight (1 mg per kg).
I started early August and saw a first definite muscular response beginning of January.
My muscular score started at about 40, went down to 30 the first week of cortisone and was at 65 in January. It increased progressively afterwards.
I had generalized MG and my ocular problems (ptosis and DV) disappeared after about 3 or 4 weeks.
I also didn't responded to 2 series of IVIG's.
Maurice.

My dad has MG and was diagnosed in October. He is on 60mg of Pred per day, and it probably took about 5-7 weeks before we saw *significant* (50% or more) improvement, but he was also in a major Myasthenic Crisis when he was put on the Pred. He still takes 60mg per day and they have tried tappering down, but as soon as the Pred is lowered, even just 5mg, we see the change in him. Ptosis starts immediately and he has muscle weakness.

I wish I had something to add but it has been so long since I was on Pred, I just don't remember, other than I was on 60mg.

I hope things start to improve soon.

Default prednisone kick in period

Tom,
I started Pred the first of Oct. My dose was 40 mg every other day. It was increased in Dec. to 60 mg every other day. I am now on a taper down and back at 40 mg every other day. I had about a week where I felt worse than before and then things started getting better. Probably about 2 weeks before I noticed significant improvement.

I'm only newly diagnosed with MG - been on medication for about a month. I take 20 mg prednisone once a day, and 30 mg of Mestinon three times a day. I noticed improvement the second day of being on meds - I felt like superwoman! Maybe it was the Mestinon? I don't feel like superwoman now, I just feel fairly "normal".

But then, my neurologist tells me that my MG isn't a very severe case. Maybe that has something to do with the quick reaction?
