I'm sorry you had a rough go of it, but glad you're home. Your experience makes my surgery look like a cakewalk. I guess that's why they kept me in ICU for almost 24 hours after surgery -- just in case what you experienced.
I hope it's smooth sailing from here and am glad they didn't have to cut your sternum.

Cricket- I was just wondering, did you have Plasmapheresis or IV/IG prior to doing the surgery? If not, that was just completely stupid of your doctors, that could have made your recovery much much better, and possibly avoided your crisis...
I had 6 sessions, before my sternoatmy. and woke up excellent, and my MG was quite bad beforehand. So, im hoping they did do this, but it doesnt sound like it.... Hope your feeling better and better each day...But i know it takes a few weeks before that happens. |

Hi, yes... I received IVIG treatments a few days ahead to prepare for my surgery...This crisis was definitely unexpected! This experience really scared me because I have never experienced a MG crisis this severe...At least it only lasted for 3 days...I also received more IVIG (2 doses) post op...I am still very sore...but the pain is tolerable now...I am making sure that I get plenty of rest and pace myself! Praying for remission! Docs are hopeful for a remission in 6-9 months.  Quote:

Me too, Pat. I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner. Not doing so great right now.
Cricket, I'm glad the surgery kind of went well but sorry that you crashed. I'm glad you had docs who knew what to do to take care of you. Take it easy for a couple months at least. I know that sounds awful but the body takes quite a beating from any surgery, as does the immune system. I hope you'll pamper yourself and get lots of sleep so that you'll heal better. Annie |
