Default IVIG help

Dr. Gupta said he was not familiar with MG or Neuropathy and we need to get a local doctor not just the ones in cleveland. Well in Macon, GA our family dr and rheumo doctor done have a clue and only pain doctor knows. They said they would do the First IVIG 400 treatmeng in outpatient for 4 hours over 5days but mentioned doing it in one day over 4 hour period next month. Said they would try to push it, he said he didnt normal gtive this much IVIG as he normal give 2 patient who are on chemo 2 help strengthy but thought they could administer same time.confused as my husband wasnt told to benedryl, water or anything...and doctor question rather ivig alone would help.

will ivig help MG and neuropathy and celiac without other meds besides blood pressure, anti-inflammatories, water pills, and excessive pain and muscle relaxers he is already on....

There has to be someone in your area who knows about MG. Maybe call around to any HMO's or contact the Muscular Dystrophy Association for a name:

IVIG will help MG. Celiac is an IgA disease, not an IgG one. It's complicated! I'm sorry about that.

The only thing that will help Celiac is stopping ALL gluten foods, forever.

Why is he on muscle relaxers? That will make his MG worse.

DO NOT allow them to push the time it takes to do an infusion of IVIG!!! Others here who have had IVIG can give you better guidelines on that than I can. Most everyone premedicates with Tylenol and Benadryl. Benadryl plus muscle relaxers and whatever else drugs he is on may not be a good thing. You have to discuss that with his doctors.

And you need to look for any signs of complications like a severe headache or pain/redness/swelling/heat anywhere on his body which may or may not be a sign of a clot. Some people have had clots after IVIG. I'm not saying that to scare you, just to make you aware - since your doctors aren't!

I will say again that high doses of sublingual B12 will go a long way to helping his neuropathy. It takes time to heal.

If he is on a diuretic, I hope he is supplementing with potassium. Are they checking his potassium regularly? Or is it a potassium-sparing diuretic?

There are people out there who will help. Contact the MDA and see what they can do for you. Then contact the MGFA: www.myasthenia.org

Drugs are not benign. I have a feeling that your husband got a bunch of drugs thrown at symptoms. I hope you will have a primary doctor do a "medication review" at some point to make certain that he needs all those medications. Drug interactions can happen even while on a couple of drugs.

I hope everything goes well. And I hope he recovers in the coming months.
