Default Prednisone Side affects, once again.

So as the prednisone begins to set in more and more every day at 50mg/day im noticing the same symptoms as last time...high BP, fast heart rate (90's) many more small things. Yet, also, something a little embaressing and annoying to an 18 year old.

Can prednisone cause imbalances with sex? Such as wanting it, or being able to get erect? I read that it can, yet im not sure if any one here has experienced it and im sure it probably does.

I was trying the other night, and yep. Nothing.
Sorry if its too weird for anyone to answer, yet i believe its a side affect.

Thanks for listening guys!

Cool Smirk

Tyson, Well, I'm not too shy to talk about sexual issues. I am going to be a little explicit, so read accordingly.

http://side-effects.org/prednisone

Of course Pred effects sex drive. It's a hormone. I'm sorry it is affecting you that way. Not fun.

The brain, luckily, is the best aphrodisiac available. Both men and women can have orgasms in their sleep, without any "physical" stimulation. So you may have to do some retraining of your mind (i.e., fantasizing) to help you out. It may not work, however, if your body's hormones are not there to respond.

It's completely NORMAL and that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with you. It's worth bringing up to your doctors though.

I hope you are not having ANY sodium while on it. It would also be worth your time to talk to a nutritionist to make sure you have the right balance of electrolytes and nutrition in your diet. It can really affect your body when those things are off.

Taking flax or fish oil daily will help too. Do you take calcium and vitamin D together daily?

That was very brave of you to bring up this topic. Sex is an integral part of good health, particularly mental health!

Thx Annie for the response, i think a few people may feel weird about talking about this..i feel its pretty normal.

But, what do you mean as far as SALTS?
Are you kidding? I eat so much food, probably so high in salts which is bad.

Yet, im 18, i dont know how to cut it out.

Im a little stressed out right now. Mid terms are next friday. My grandfather has 5 days to live, im flying home saturday, staying till wednesday then coming back for my mid term...all while so tired..
Uh. Everything comes at once, doesnt it?

Tyson, I'm so sorry your Grandfather is dying. When my Grandma died, I just about fell apart. It was probably the most self-destructive period I have ever gone through due to grief. I hope you'll do okay on the flight.

One can of soup could give someone on Pred a heart attack, cause they often have 1000+ mg. of sodium per serving. Chips? Bad. There are alternative foods but you would have to stick to "whole" foods like vegies, fruits, carbs without salt, lean proteins without added salt, etc. I would bet that it's the salt that is sending you over the edge. Soda is bad too.

Fish oil is okay but eating good fish does wonders for both your mood and your libido!

Yes, everything does seem to come in bunches. The only thing I can do when my life feels out of control is to realize that I can only be in control of how I react to it all. Not so easy when someone you love is dying though. I hope your Grandfather knows you are there and that you have time to spend with him. Take it easy, okay?

Hi Tyson,

sorry to hear about your Grandfather.

Nah don't feel weird about this subject, just don't know enough about the effects of pred on sex drive...I'm on so many drugs that "may effect libido" sheesh ain't the side effects of the drugs we take just wonderful, still the disease I guess is worse.

Hope your mid terms go well, and your body copes with all that is going on
Kate
