Confused Upcoming Biopsy-Suggestions? Thoughts?

Ifound out the surgeon they have me currently set up with has only 2 years at this hospital. I think she is new/young. The last biopsy I had was literally the first one by a student. Yes it was on my lip for Sjogrens but still. They sprung it on me just before the proceedure. And now that biopsy has been questioned.

I live on the second floor and the current neuro ordered they do my left thigh. My left thigh has a history or spasming and is the best leg I have to get me up the stairs.

Annie, You have the right to refuse any test. Doctors usually do the weakest muscle group, such as the deltoid. Is your thigh the weakest area? The deltoid/shoulder is very commonly done.

Are you having this done at Mayo?

Talk to your doctors and get their reasoning. Ask if they can do it elsewhere.

I don't know what to tell you other than be your own best advocate.

My left side is my weakest. I guess if I had my choice I would rather they do my arm as I am right handed so do more with right arm-hand. It would be easier to have left arm recovering than my left leg.

I have no choice at this point since it is the only path to a diagnosis. They wont diagnosis me based on my current eye MG or the fact that mestinon and the prostigmine injection test worked. NOw I have a slim hope that the new neuro I am seeing that has far more experience than the one I have could see this differently. I do have pretty much classic MG symptoms except that my breathing is worse than the average patient.

My neuro wrote up that I hadnt done the biopsy last fall because I was too sick. It is far more complex but that is her. I have been working since after the 08 MG crisis to get on more home aid. This had to be inplace before I get even moe laid up. I went onto the list for expanded help in Sept 08. My name just came up thiis summer and got approval in July. It still hasnt started. I dont know that I would have gotten it yet if I hadnt told the director of the home aid agency that I had told my teaching hospital that I couldnt have the biopsy until this is in place suddenly I got the call saying my name was at the top of the list. The workings of the State Dept of Human Services and all the branches is too often murky.

Since my breathing is worse I think they feel they need to be sure ALS or something is not involved.
