Default high levelof Throid Peroxidase

Diagnosed with MG Feb 2010, had Thymectomy May of 2010. My MG is entirely in my eyes (no double vision, just tired eyes), and my throat... trouble swallowing, speaking, etc. I'm being treated with Mestinon, 240-300 MG a day and for the most part dealing with the disease.
Recently on a yearly physical by my GP the blood test reveled a high level of thyroid peroxidase - 100....normal level is 0-34.
My Neuro at Columbia did not think that as an issue and said it is common with autoimmune disease....
Anyone have experience with this?
Chris

Chris, The problem is that a neurologist is not an ENDOCRINOLOGIST!

An endocrinologist would understand that it is NOT common just because you have MG but is a sign of an autoimmune attack on the thyroid.

Do not expect your neurologist to know the details about endocrine issues. Please get a 2nd opinion, or rather a FIRST opinion, from a good endocrinologist. You will need to be followed closely.

Also, NatureThroid, the more "natural" alternative to Synthroid, is a good drug. If you are allergic to pork, however, you can't use it. Armour Thyroid is okay but they've had problems with both quality and availability.

I hope you will get answers you need soon!

Annie
