Ok so everytime i take mestinon or timespan for several days in a row. I get this pain in my lowerback and mid back right where your rib cage is. they did a kidney ultrasound on me but kindeys and bladder looked great. Anyone have a clue what might be going on. Or what is in that area I think your spleen is??

Your spleen is on the left and lies near your stomach, under your heart.
Wikipedia have some pictures, and here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spleen

I always thought it was gallbladder attack. But with Mestinon I get it and it might be due to your having a problem with your thymus gland (hyperplasia or infiltration into lungs, heart or liver) Mestinon also increases mucus and you may have a slight lung area causing problem.
Get your thymus evaluated for hyperplasia or infiltration by chest scan. |

I find that I have to drink more water with Mestinon. It could be kidney(or other organ) pain from lack of the extra water needed to process the Mestinon. Try more water.

Have you gone to see your primary doctor? My first thought was the kidneys too. There are other "body parts" in that area, such as the lungs, the GI tract, the ovaries (if you are a woman) and arteries. One thing Mestinon does is to increase peristalsis, the way food moves through the GI tract. How are your stools? Are they normal in frequency and appearance (nice, s-shape). Are they little pellets. Do you have a fever? Did they run a metabolic panel on you looking at kidney function? You can't always tell by looking at kidneys if things are okay. Did they look at your renal arteries when they were doing the ultrasound? Was it a duplex ultrasound?
Yeah, I have lots of questions. What about your liver? Yes, the kidneys clear drugs and foods but the liver metabolizes them. What about your pancreas? Maybe they need an abdominal CT to look at all of your organs. The spleen is more in front than back. Did they do the kidney ultrasound while you were having pain? Did anyone do a urinalysis? Pain is not normal, whatever the cause. Sometimes an internist/PCP can do more than specialty doctors (and vice versa). I hope your doctors can figure out what is going on. Annie |
