Do any of you experience any weakness in your knees. It seems like lately, everything is going to my knees. I love to dance and when I began to dance, I thought my knees would fall off and had to stop. I am going dancing soon and I sure don't want to have to sit there. At least, I could dance a dance or two. This will be the first time since beginning Mestinon. My knees feel fine resting, but I have noticed when I walk, my knees feel funny. It is so strange. busybusy

I don't have knee problems but understand your problem. This disease has hampered my ping-pong playing. The double vision and tired legs has really slowed me down. But I keep playing as much as my body will allow. I'm determined to not let this thing whip me. You got to keep plugging away.

When I'm really weak, my knees tend to bend the wrong way a bit. I guess this is called "hyper-extending." Not enough to hurt, but enough to make me walk even funnier.

busybusy,
When the weather turns cold I get weakness in my knees and my feet, makes me walk oddly. Don't overdo the dancing, but have fun when you do!

Busybusy,
I get what I call jello knees quite often. It's strong enough to support my body, but it definitely is not sturdy. Then, there are time, when it feels as if there are sacks of fat bubbles hovering above my knees. Is that how you would describe your symptoms? |

My problem seems more like weakness in my thigh muscles, although at times my knees do tend to get a bit weaker.
I find walking isn't always as much of a problem as standing in place, or climbing stairs. If my legs begin to fatigue I also experience some mild to moderate foot drop, my right leg tends to tire quicker than the left, so I have to overcompensate and lift the right leg higher, not exactly an attractive walk! Getting up from chairs or the sofa is also difficult, I need to use the arms of the chair to help raise myself up. If there are no arms on the chair or sofa, then I rely on a 'hand up' from a friend! When my legs start to act up we call them 'spaghetti legs' jello legs didn't seem right being italian american! I also waddle like a penguin the first thing in the morning while I wait for my Mestinon to kick in. I haven't been able to do much dancing, my niece but on some music the other day, we used to dance around like fools, I almost fell on my @$$. Busy, don't overdo it, rest in between songs, have a great time! Rachel

Hate to be a bug about this point but have you had your vit D tested and are sure it is high enough for you. For you means the tables dont mean diddly so get your number and do some research. And get the right test. My doc mistakenly ordered the wrong test this past week. He ordered the di hydroxy not the hydroxy one (I think I spelled that right).
Nothing will make my knees change faster than when my vit D is down too much. It hits the proximal muscles, the ones closest to the body so for me that is the thighs and upper arms. Right now I can't even lift my left arm as I am lower leaving the least use of left arm open a door or curtain hurts and is worsening the shoulder injury. For the knees, since it's making my thighs weaker it feels like my legs are gonna give out when I get up and poor knees hurt. I personally need over 45 for a vit D number and perfer how amazing my strengh and health is at 60. Annie59 |

Since MG affects all of the skeletal muscles and they are what "hold up" our skeleton, you should expect that any of the bones/joints may be affected by MG. If you use your trunk muscles a lot, the joints in your spine might be compressed more. If you continue to have problems, you might want to consider physical therapy. It might only be a temporary problem from overuse of your leg muscles but anything that persists could benefit from PT.
One thing you can look for in any muscle group are sore spots, where the muscle is in spasm/contracting. Kneading those areas like you would bread dough really does help make it better. I hope they start to feel better! Annie |
