My pharmacist suggested lomotil the drug for this with atropine in it as that seemed to allow me to have all the good with out the bad when I was tested with the injectable neostigmine and given an injection of atropine. I told my pharmacist about the test and he said this was a better idea than the Questran he suggested. What I read about Questran told me it would not be good for me particulary.
I notice in a pst messge Redtail that you used lomotil, I think. Do you still. If this allows me to take larger more normal doses it would sure help me breath better. Annie59 |

Annie, You need to STOP drugging yourself immediately. You need to see a doctor. Lomotil has ATROPINE in it. If you have MG, Atropine will make it worse. Atropine is used to counteract a cholinergic crisis where someone has had too much Mestinon. It does the opposite of Mestinon.
This really makes me think that you do not have MG. If Atropine makes you feel better, then it doesn't make sense that what you have is MG. No, I'm not doubting you or the fact that you have something wrong with your health. But this is not making any sense. And your pharmacist needs to be told that Atropine should NOT be given to someone with MG! Questran is used to lower cholesterol. Why would that help any GI tract issues? If I were you, I wouldn't take ANYTHING that a pharmacist said to take. You need a DOCTOR to help you. A pharmacist is not legally authorized to prescribe drugs, right Mrs. D? More is NOT better with drugs either. You could self-medicate yourself into a situation where you can't breathe. You need to call your doctor immediately. I'm sorry if I'm being too harsh but this is dangerous and you need some help right away. Annie |

I got atropine in the normal context of a chemical test for MG like other people. It was not given alone. It was given with neostigmine as is the protocol for that test by a qualified neuro-opthomologist.
They give you an injection of the atropine first and then the neostigmine (or visa versa) to counter an allergic reaction not the reaction of MG drug injection of neostigmine. That was the test I had to see if my eye double vision was MG. This may not be standard for a regular neuro as they use tensilon but this is for a neuro-optho. And the neuro-optho department in Iowa is one of the top ones in the country. I found someone here is who has used lomotil. I am not running out to get it. I just want to breath better and miss how amazingly great I breath on 60-75mg mestinon. But my bowels cant handle that amount. Fighting to breath is no horrible day after day. But as I said above putting myself in my current neuros hands and having her inisist I do a round of pulmonary testing to prove I am like I am is frightening. After those tests I breath worse. She could very easily determin it is not enough and send me home to only be in worse hell or have the whole thing thro me into another crisis. Questran is for Cholestral but is higly constipating is the point of that drug and this situation to my pcp. I have never had a cholestral problem. Annie59 Quote:

I take lamotil for the diarrhea also - I know it has atropine in it, but it is a very small amount and it doesn't seem to worsen the mg, but does control the diarrhea if I catch it before it gets too bad.
You should check with your doctor and see what he has to say about the atropine - You can also check the MG Foundation website - they have good information on it. Good luck! |

Thank you Juanita. I knew I had seen someone note this but couldnt remember who.
At this point the reason I ask my pharmcist is that he is very good and knows my medication profile better than any single doctor I have espcecially my pcp. My pcp used to be very good. I have been with him since my kids were young. He suffers from nice guy'itis' in that his practice is too large and he is off the mark and even uninformed and angry at times now. I am asking around for another doc but last time I looked it was hard to get in to someone with my medicare/medicaid. The last drug he prescibed was Celebrex which I research hoping it was a good alternative to the high dose naproxen for the myositis. Here I find there are warning about its affect on bone health. Now if my bones were ok that would be OK for a while but they are degraded from my probs with vit D/parathyroid. Annie59 Quote:
