Default Vitamin D Lamps

I know there have been several posts regarding low Vit D levels on this site. I too am low on Vit D and I have been doing research on how to supplement my Vit D (other than taking the 60,000 mg/week tablets) and have found that the lamps used to treat SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) also treats low Vit D levels.

I went on Amazon.com, typed in "Vit D lamps" and found quite a few with prices from about $50 to $450. I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do yet, but thought I would mention this here since it is a problem for several other prople.

Computers, heaters, microwaves - these lamps - and the sun all emit some form of electromagnetic waves or radiation that may be harmful to you. You have to weigh the cost of using a Vitamin D lamp with the potential side effects.

Why don't you try supplements for a while and then get your Vitamin D retested to see how you're doing? Because of our "weakened" immune systems, being around any radiation - even the sun - can be bad for us.

I take supplements because I'd rather do that than have any kind of cancer.

Juanitad, I have studied and researched the vitamin D issue since 2006 when I was diagnosed and dabled some before that after reading some of the book Body Blues when I had the symptoms of Season Affective disorder (which can also look alot like Fibromyalgia too). There is much discussion of the bodies need for natural lite especially women. After just getting more lite in traditional ways like curtains open and room lighting and walks and seeing a differnce I did elect to get a 'lite box'. Lite boxes for SAD do not affect vitamin D. Here is info from the website about the one I bought. I bought it tho not there but from the hosptial medical supply store.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/35...or-depression/ This is from Lance Armstongs site with tons of health info and it seems even this header is a mixed message. It says sun and it is about natual lite but not sun in the the sense that it tans you or you would be fried if you sat if front of it for an hour or so.

If you have info suggesting otherwise I would like to see it and see why it is misleading. This is a confusing area. I was confused that first year and a half as to what was actually taking place. The book Body Blues has a website and is pretty clear about a number of factors that can make us painful, weaker and depressed that if taken seriously can help even if medication is also needed tho at that time I had no intention of going back to antidepressant as I am one of those folks that they make worse not better.

I did buy a vitamin D or sun lamp. It would have to be a sun lamp. A lite box for SAD is not a sun lamp. To add to the confusion there is another kind of lamp that provides healing lite for people with eczema!

This site has a photo simlar to the one I bought. There is info here too. I bought mine from Summertan and was disappointed when the lite would make me faint and I quickly tried to return it and was told all was good then someone else said no so my credit card got money back. Sperti is the maker so they may be more reliable. If you could get one from a medical supply place it may be better. I still dont know I it would make me faint. The one I had was stronger than what a tan bed is based only on a max of 3-6 mintues. I think that strength was too much for my sensitive body.

Hope this helps you. message me if you can give you more info. Tanning at a salon and making sure they know you are there for vit D so you get only the beds that give you that is an option while you research. If my vitamin D hadnt been so low I wouldnt have had SAD. So the lite box actually was unnecessary as it was the low vitamin that was so so low and had been for a few years that got me in a real deep ditch.

Everyone is different, with MG or with a vitamin D deficiency. It is important to follow with a doctor to determine:

1. Is there a cause for the deficiency?

2. What is the best treatment for your particular situation.

3. Followup to see if the treatment is working.

Annie59, not everyone has a severe situation like you do. To do have too much Vitamin D is dangerous too, as is too little.

Anyone who has a serious history of cancer should not be using a lamp and needs to discuss any treatments, even sitting in the sun, with their appropriate doctors.
