Default Burning Hands

At night that the palms of my hands burn/tingle alot. They are a lil red and blotchy and feel swollen all the time. This has been going on for at least a few months. Originally I thought it was just dry hands from antibacterial sanitizer as well as from household cleaning products, but then the joints in my fingers started to ache too. I am currently on Mestinon, Prednisone, Imuran, and IVIG treatments once every 3 weeks. (Imuran went up to 200 mg a day a couple of months ago.) Does anyone have any ideas or know what this might be from?

Tracey,

Since it's a new and different symptom, and not related to MG per se, you need to bring it up to your primary doctor. Don't bother with the neuro on this one - it's not their area of expertise.

It may be a side effect of a drug but it may not be. I don't want to think you could have something else going on, but you could. Peripheral neuropathy comes to mind.

It also sounds a bit inflammatory due to the redness and blotchiness.

Your primary doctor can take a look see and do an x-ray of your hands to look for any signs of arthritis.

When you suppress the immune system with Prednisone, you are getting rid of both good and bad prostaglandins (Pred is an antiprostaglandin). You may need to supplement with good prostaglandins/omega 3's via eating fish or fish oil and/or flax oil. Again, talk to your doctor about all of this. And ask them to check your Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and folate!

I hope you will go in right away! Don't wait any longer, okay?

Annie

Tracey, have u learned anything new about your burning hands and acky joints. Yesterday, both of my palms where on fire all day, nothing helped. When i placed them into the dish water, I almost cried. This morning my joints r stiff, but I have never had redness with the burning. I can handle pain, but the burning is really hard. If u have learned anything or anyone else out there has any knowledge, please share. We have lost our insurance and I hate to add any doctor bills.
