Default Alot from Doctor appointment

I am trying to sort thru the gravity of the Doc appointment yesterday. She did a test on me. She did ask if doing it was ok. She did alot of that. She did make a big effort to give me a good doc to see me soon for the digestive/fluids issue.

The test she said was for checking my adrenal glands. It was an injection that took a blood test first, then the injection and then another blood test just under an hour later. I asked what was being injected to nurse but cant remember. I dont feel good, not myself today and I was wondering if some of that was from the injection. I am having what I call the POTS symptoms as part of this. When I stand I go right into the feeling I might faint. I did sleep a little better and didnt get a dry. So was that a positive affect?

A couple other things that threw me. She asked if I had a medical alert braclet. I said no tho thought of but forgot in the months of being so much worse. She wrote out the paperwork for it. Also she wanted me to get a scooter. She explained in great detail how to get my pcp to do it. And she said where to get info. I said you will need to write him a letter on this. I didnt tell her the shinagans in records that had gone to him basically has him doubting everything I say so he is little helpp.

This is all I can share for now. Cant see as well for the heavy duty Systane Nite had to put in eye just now. The pain was escalating when the surface injury is. But the trade off is I can barely see cause it is my noncataract eye os my only really functional one. I also am deeply exhausted but gotta get alot more fluids and food and more mestinon in me or this POTS stuff gets worse. The mestinon helps it as well as salt. I think she is checking me for Addisons.

Does anyone medical here know more about the test and ijnection I had? Could it be affecting me still some?

Annie, this is all good--I'm so glad to see a doctor exploring new possibilities. Here's hoping that new diagnoses will lead to effective new treatments.

Oh realized I didnt say this was my internist at the univeristy. I spoke honestly about if I were to see someone there is would have to be someone like my wonderful pulmo who she initially switched me to from a lesser pulmo. I added her to the list of someone like pulmo tho that wasnt as true as pulmo. In repsonse to this she gave me the name of a doc there who she felt was like that but would take 3 months. So she gave me the name of a really good gastro doc that had left the univerity to private proactice. There in that city (not mine).

She set up referall to a throat specialist when I explained that something more was going on with talking and breathing that causes my throat area to lockup and areas in chest when I try to talk for any length of time. It had happened again last Monday after 2 long morning calls. The only aid is to stop talking for the most part. She said he specilzes in vocal chords. This a step up from the local throat fella that had scoped me in office and asked if I had been worked up for ALS and ordered an MRI of throat and swallow study. I became so ill with gastro issue I didnt get thru the tests.

Default Hello

Hi Annie, when in doubt ask. I would ask for my records, find out what the injection was, and head for the internet. Any drug can be looked up and youcan see if it is effecting you negatively or positively. Ask your Dr. too. don't be afraid to find out if it is bugging you. ginnie

Hi Annie,

its sounds like you had the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACTH_stimulation_test 2 minutes looking on wikipedia and you would have found it.

They do a blood draw to test your base cortisol level then give you a drug to stimulate your adrenal gland. They leave it a period of time before drawing blood again to see how they have responded. This test must be done before 9am or it is a total waste of time. You have the highest amount of cortisol naturally in your system by 9am.

When I had it done last year my base cortisol was low but my adrenal glands responded. It is a test for Addison's Disease. It made me feel rough for many days afterwards, however that could have been due to the fact that my body doesn't really do upright!

I've had this test twice (second doctor didn't think the first doctor did it right). I don't remember it making me feel bad after, but I don't have MG so that could be the difference. Yes it is checking for Addison's Disease. My Mom actually has it. It's good to hear you have a doctor who will listen, even if the other isn't. She sounds like she truly cares and is trying to take care of you!
