Heart Question about mg....

OK - MAYBE ONE OF YOU - OR MANY OF YOU CAN SOLVE THIS FOR FOR ME - WHY CAN'T WE JUST GET TRANSFUSIONS? I HAVE HAD TO HAVE A FEW AND I FELT AMAZING AFTER!

I KNOW MY PORT WILL NOT SUPPORT IT, BUT WOULD BE WILLING TO GGO THROUGH IT AS LONG AS I FELT GREAT!

ARE THE DANGERS HIGHER? DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY WE AREN'T TREATED WITH TRANSFUSIONS?

LOVE!
ERIN

Hi, Erin. I was so glad to hear how far you've come!

My understanding is that blood is made up of red blood cells floating in a liquid called plasma. The antibodies that cause MG are also floating in the plasma. There's nothing wrong with our red blood cells, so there's no need to replace them--we can just replace the plasma. That's exactly what plasmapheresis does.

I'm just deducing an answer from the things I know, but it makes sense, doesn't it?

Abby

Erin, I agree with Stellatum and if you felt better after some blood transfusions, I think that you had other problems than MG...
I'm still on one PLEX every month and I can't think living without them!
