Confused New to chat_MG_Fibo_Now AutoGastritis

I'm new to the group. Hope to find some answers. Taking Mesiton. Have had MG sense 2006, Last year I was told I had Fibromylgia, I'm On Lryica. I'm tired but getting by. Now I have auto-immune Gastritis. There's not much I can eat. It hurts to much. I'm getting where I hate the idea of food. The things I cn eat are putting weight on me. Yet I'm eating like a bird. Except for maylox. Dr put me on Nexium. NO Good!
I am playing with the IDEA of going on a liquid diet, then soft food and work my way up to real food again. See if I can reboot my system. I'm not even sure that will help.
Is there someone out there that has this and can help me?

Hi, Bea. Welcome. How did they diagnose your autoimmune gastritis? Did they define it as Pernicious Anemia? If you have autoimmune gastritis, that means you have NO stomach acid. It's an autoimmune attack of the stomach.

Did they do the parietal cell antibody? Intrinsic factor antibody?

If you have destruction of your stomach, it means you not only lack stomach acid but will soon - if you aren't already - be lacking in vitamins such as Vitamin B12 and calcium and iron and albumin. Without enough stomach acid, you can't digest your food properly and you can't then get enough nutrients absorbed in the small intestines.

I dumbfounds me how doctors do not understand this basic issue. Malox, Prilosec or any other acid blocker or antacid will not help on a long term basis. I personally know about this because I have no stomach acid. It wasn't until my B12 deficiency was diagnosed and I did more digging that I was able to know what would help. I take Betaine HCL with my food, which is a mild acid usually made from beets. Do not take anything without talking to your doctor first though. They may not be aware of this so you may need to take basic info to them - "if" they are open to learning!

Taking flax or fish oil will help keep the gel coating of your stomach in tact. We need good prostaglandins from things like fish or nuts to keep our gel coating in good shape.

It would be a very good idea if your primary doctor can check the levels of vitamins, iron, etc. to make sure you aren't deficient.

Since you have autoimmune gastritis, you will need to take sublingual methylcobalamin for the rest of your life. Has anyone even mentioned this to you? Since you can't absorb B12 well through the GI tract, that's why you'll need to do this. B12 shots are okay but they have to be converted from the cyanocobalamin they give you into methylcobalamin by the liver before your body can use it. Why not get it right away?! Get your B12 tested first. My doctor also tested my homocysteine and it was above normal, which it often will be with a B12 deficiency. Methylmalonic acid might be too.

Are you sure you don't have muscle pain due to a vitamin D deficiency? That's also quite common and can seem like Fibro. Lyrica is a nasty drug. I don't blame you for not wanting to be on it.

Your ferritin may be low too. A lot of doctors don't often check that.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you need more info. Make that appt. with your doctor and get some basic things checked out.

Annie
