My daughter is receiving her second round of IVIG infusions this week. After the 3rd dose she noticed that she felt moderate upper back pain. This is a dull, tight feeling. She is receiving pre-meds of solu-medrol and zofran, so she has kept the headache at bay, but this neck/back pain is the only complaint. Has anyone else heard about the reason for this? Could it be that the IgG antibodies in the IVIG are being pulled into the spinal fluid and causing spinal pain?

I get that. The IVIG is just irritating the meninges surrounding the spinal cord. See if the infusion company will reduce the rate of the IVIG next time, and push more fluids. She will probably notice that the pain will move down the spine and then disappear within a few days.
Good luck. |
