I agree with Brenan - Mestinon can make intestinal (muscle) contractions which can result in 'a quick trip' ... maybe even diaherria. Some folks complain of excessive tearing or salivation on too high a dose.

You really need a clinical partner in this 'trial'. But since you have tolerated the 15 mg dose except for that one occasion, I would be inclined not to blame that incident on the Mestinon.

First time I took it, I was feeling almost normal, took 60mg. 30min later, was weak, brain felt drugged, and pupils got tiny. OK that was wrong!

Second time, I waited until a severe weakness episode, and took 30mg. 30min later, eyes popped open and I could get out of bed and do housework. BINGO! I thought I'd found the magic bullet.

Next 4 times, I took 30mg when my eyes were droopy, but I didn't feel terrible overall. Went straight from ptosis to spastic eyelid closure, had some GI side effects.

Next time, 30mg during a bad weakness attack. Eyes opened a little for about an hour, but I was still down for the count. Repeat in 4 hours with no benefit.

Next day 60mg with bad weakness attack. No benefit, GI side effects.
Today 30mg with weakness; no effect.

Any recommendations?

Default Mestinon trial

this is from my present Neuro, and the many that have managed my case prior to the present:
When I first started Mestinon, I was started on 15 mg every 4 hours, reguardless of the Myasthenic of lack thereof problems that were present at the time. This was done in the hospital so the results after any exertion were not really monitored. Mestinon does not build up in your system, therefore the dosage every 4 hours. Do not wait until u start experiencing some symtom that u want to alleviate to take it.
Also, too much will cause myasthenic symtoms much like too little, or none at all.
