Hi all,
I'm scheduled for surgery to remove an large ovarian cyst - the first operation I've needed since my MG symptoms began. I'm really worried as I won't be able to take codeine/tramadol/morphine etc after the surgery as they really effect my breathing and make my diaphragm very weak. No idea how I'll cope without pain relief. How do others manage this situation (i.e pain relief that won't interfere with breathing!)? Typically my neurologist is away for a month and this op needs to happen quickly! ![]() Any advice much appreciated x |

Ask the doctor doing the surgery what they plan on giving you for pain. Also call the neurologist's office anyway, even if he/she is away as they have to have someone covering for them in emergency situations. The neurologist may be able to recommend a pain killer that doesn't interfere with MG. Also make sure you talk to the anesthesiologist and remind them what drugs make you weak. I always cary a list of the most common interactions with MG and give it to all of my doctors.
I hope the surgery goes well- positive thinking and Tylenol couldn't hurt either! |

Thank you Sunflower
![]() Sadly, Tylenol and anti-inflammatories have zero effect on me My little sister has also just had an ovarian cyst removed (so weird - as I was being told that I had one, she was under anaesthetic having hers removed! We're 'cysters'!) and seeing how much pain she is in - and that's WITH regular mega doses of codeine etc. is not reassuring. No idea how I'll go through that without some serious pain relief... You say you have a list of the mot common interactions with MG... do you happen to know where I can find such a list? Thank you ![]() |
