Default How do you deal with people trying to sell you miracle cures?

My nurse at work has been trying to get me to try some vitamin shakes that she sells. She thinks they'll help the conditions I have, I think I'm way beyond vitamins, plus I looked up the company she works for and they're sketchy. I don't want to report her, even though its a conflict of interest, as she really has helped me in other ways and lets me use the clinics diabetes supplies if I forget my own, I just want her to back off her sales pitch.

I hate it when people try to do that to me. I usually try to be polite when I tell them to take a hike. One guy tried to sell me a faith healing session. He actually was going to charge.

If a product is really good seems they could give out a free sample, then if it did work, a person would most likely buy it..

I usually said , I don't buy anything like that, when co workers were selling stuff...
Same with girl scout cookies or boy scout selling whatever they sell,, "Oh, No thank you."
with a smile...

If you've said no thanks to coworker a few times ,and they keep pushing it...

First: I think to myself that they mean well. (even though it is very annoying).

Then: I listen carefully, and say- Well, thanks for your suggestion. I will definitely discuss it with my neurologist next time we meet.

But girl scout cookies are so good. They ARE miracle cures...at least more so than the soy/vitamin stuff the nurse keeps telling me I should be taking.

I really shouldn't be too hard on the nurse, because she does help me a lot, but I think these health food people have her believing her product can cure anything. There's even a site dedicated to debunking things this company says and one guy said his parents won't talk to him 'cause he won't take the stuff and a neighbor died when they convinced him to use that stuff instead of chemo.

My husband has a cousin who's wife stopped taking her blood pressure medicine because she was convinced that herbal tea was a better plan. She tried to convince me to do the same. She was very sincere and meant very well. She died because she had a hypertensive crisis and then a heart attack.

Default Hello Backward Pawn

Hi, I have a neighbor that tied to get me to take more than I wanted to do also. I just told her the truth very gently that I was under the care of a doctor who treated the whole body. Sometimes just coming out with it, but not in a negative way works. I know you don't want to rock the boat, but sometimes you have to just a bit. I wish you all the best. ginnie

My dad works with someone whose daughter has serious medical issues. They've been to all the doctors and can't get a diagnosis, so they gave up and started going to an herbalist. My dad tried to tell them that they need to go to a teaching center where they see the rare cases, but they're convinced the herbalist will solve her problems. Its a shame, but sometimes you just can't help people.

Default Hi backward Pawn

You had the right idea with a teaching, or diagnositic center like Mayo clinic. That is where I went. I am also seeing another kind of doctor I mentioned in my last post that treats the whole body. She is a pain specialist, and she is called a Physiasist. If you google this up, you will see what a good addition this type of physician is for your all over health. She does include nutrition, and works with a person on a cellular level. For myself, I feel blessed to have found this kind of doctor. Herbal remedies may help some, but for me, I wanted the medical professionals. Google up this kind of physician if you have time. You may want to see if there is one in your neck of the woods. I wish you all the best. Ginnie

Use the sandwhich: it's a pro saying for a tactical way to give difficult council. So you start with something positive, in the middle you give the (sometimes unwanted) council and on the end you leave a compliment.

I do believe you should be assertive. If you really do not want to try the herbs then say something like:

"That is so kind of you, I know you absolutely trust what you sell, but for me, at the moment, I am truly happy with the meds I take. I feel comfortable on them, which is very important to me. However thank you so much for thinking of me and if in the future I want to try herbal remedies I certainly know where to come".

Good luck, I hope this helps.
