Default Nervous - sleep study

So, I had a sleep study last week.. for the past 2 years or more since this whole thing started I feel that I dont' breathe deeply enough at night.. I finally built up the courage to go get a sleep study. I find out results this afternoon.. I know if I need it that Bipap would make me feel better, but without a completely firm diagnosis I am scared, what if I need bipap!! I'm just so anxous about finding out the results.. The people kept having to come in to fix the electrodes since I have such bad night sweats - I've been this way for a few years now

Since summer has began, my eyelids aren't closing all the way at night again.. ugh.. had this problem last summer and the one before that as well, didnt' realize it was related to the heat until now.. I wake up with my eyelids stuck and dry dry dry eyes..

anyhow, just had to get it out that i'm beside myself with nerves until my apt this afternoon!

My hsband LOVES his bipap. He can't sleep wwithout it. You won't have electrodes if you have to wear one--so no problem with those other than in the study. You'll just have a mask. If you need one, you'll deal with it. If you don't, you'll know that soon too. I think you'll be fine either way. Let us know how you're doing!

Twenty plus years ago my wife insisted that I go get a sleep study. She claimed I had apnea. I denied it. We went to see the doctor and I almost had him convinced I was OK until he asked my wife about my symptoms. I had all the classic ones, including that I didn't think anything was wrong.

I went for a sleep study and was prescribed a CPAP. BIPAPs weren't available in those days. It took me almost a week to adjust to the machine. Once I got past the adjustment period I was absolutely astounded that when I woke up in the mornings I felt good! I had actually forgotten what a good night's sleep felt like.

I have used my CPAP every single night since then. It has become almost like a security blanket. I wake up feeling rested.

If you have sleep apnea I will guarantee that IF you will stick the adjustment phase out you will never sleep without it again.

Good luck!

Thank yall so much for such kind words- I really appreciate it!

So, I was inredibly nervous.. I had my husband and then two small kiddos there for moral support, but then the nurse came in and said my hubby and children should probably leave... talk about panic! I was sure it was going to be bad news then!

anyhow.. the dr said it was normal!! I couldn't believe it!! He said I had a brief moment where my pulse ox went down to 85%, but it appeared there was artifact at that time (the elctrodes kept falling off).. It looked like I had 13 events of hypoapnea, and then 26 episodes of RERA (respiratory effort related arousals).. that sounds like A LOT, a whole lot to me.... but it was in the normal range (anything under an index of 10 was normal and mine was 6).. when my lyrica started to wear off It showed some restless leg.. .. my hypoapnea index was 2 and anything under 5 is normal.. My avg pulse ox was 96%..... sooo all in all pretty good I suppose.. he said it was absolutely fine.. he had no concerns.. and he is an author of some pulmonary sections of widely used medical books, so I assume he knows what he is talking about

so all in all very very relieved!
