Default Trip and Fall

Tripping was one of my earliest generalized MG symptoms. I had started to trip ALOT - and it became especially notable when walking on uneven surfaces. Even now, my body picks up the most subtle change of walking "terrain".

I have fallen a few times; I believe my falls are most often the result of tripping (vs sudden muscle weakness). What causes the tripping? To me, it is a combination of muscle weakness AND balance problems.

I once tripped walking in my favorite rubber-soled slippers that got "caught" in my wall-to-wall carpet. Legs were weak, hadn't lifted my foot high enough, I guess. Yikes, thought I was a "goner" as I was going down.

Now, when walking inside, I generally have my hand out, touching a wall or furniture or counter-top. When my MG is severe I use a walker. But I don't like using a walker - it feels so "cumbersome" to me.

Navigating out of my home - I use a cane, forearm crutches or the arm of the person I am walking with. This way, if I trip, or start to feel weak, I have some type of support.
