I haven't had one done. Sorry. I'm sure someone else has had one. My Dad had ports in for dialysis. Don't worry, the people who do them have usually done a lot of them. I'm sure it'll go well. Are you doing okay?

I have one (single used for IVIG). It's scary to think about for sure, but it truly is a minor procedure.
If you are thin, or thin in the chest (not breast) area, I would consider asking for a "slim port" or "low profile" port. They will not stick out so much so you won't be knocking it on things as much. As far as the procedure to install one goes, it's pretty easy. I was just sedated (don't remember a thing) and woke up a bit later and all was done. I didn't respond well to the sedation (got pukey) but once that was settled I was good to go. The plasmapharesis folks will take it from there. Good luck and feel free to ask any other questions! |
