What sort of foods do you find are generally easier to eat when you're having a difficult time chewing? I was doing really well, but I've been on a downward swing the last month or so and this week has been especially trying whenever I attempt to eat. I'm starting to rely more on soups and other foods that need less chewing, but thought I'd see if anyone has any other good ideas. Or if anyone has some good recipes for soups, smoothies, etc that you enjoy, I'd love to try them!

I find mashed potatoes work well for me. I look at it from the other side of the equation though.... what's hard to eat? (avoid that). I find ground beef and rice are the worst things for me. The little bits and pieces just don't want to move down. Another thing that I find weird is lobster/crab/shrimp ... they all have basically the same consistency to their meat but I can eat lobster no problem, crab is a little tricky and I cannot eat shrimp at all.
Anyway, to start the ball rolling for recipes, here's the garlic soup recipe I use (absolutely delicious imo, similar consistency to cream of mushroom soup) http://www.food.com/recipe/44-clove-...-cheese-474559 edit: it calls for heavy cream, I use cereal cream personally and it works just fine with that. Adam, sorry you are feeling worse. My swallowing symptoms were at their worse last summer. I am feeling and eating better with the cooler weather.
I have switched away from meat and eat baked fish alot. It flakes so you don't have to chew too much and is easy to swallow. I over-cook all my veggies so they are mushy and they go down well. I also eat alot of mashed potatoes, overcooked and cut up egg noodles and yogurt. If I eat meat, it is in a casarole type with gravy, veggies and noodles or potatoes, all over cook so it is very tender. I eat semi-thick soups, The thin soup go down too fast and I cannot swallow fast enough and start to choke. And of course, don't forget my favorite treat of ice cream ![]() Hope this helps, kathie |
