Was diagnosed with MG in Sept 2009 . For the first three years , did well with only minor speech , and breathing problems . Take 60 MG of Mestinon ..4 times a day and it seemed to keep me stable .
In Oct 2012 , started getting extremely fatigued ...Barely able to walk to mail box , or lift my arms to get a dish from a shelf . My neuro finally talked me into Prednisone in early Dec ..Started with 40 MG a day ..then went up after two weeks to 60 MG ...Also started Cell Cept at that time ( early Dec) . Didn't see any improvement until about a month later , but can now walk without excessive fatigue . Neuro also had me do IVIG and I finished a five day ..40 gram IVIG treatment at the local hospital ...Astonished to learn that each 20 gram bottle costs in excess of $10,000 Wow !! So far I've seen no noticable improvement from the IVIG ..Its been 10 days Having some minor side effects from Prednisone .....Leg and hand cramps in the middle of the night and some squirrley head stuff in the day ..Started eating bananas and taking 500 MG of Potassium daily and the cramps have diminished . Still get squirrley , but maybe thats just me .. ![]() |

Good, I'm glad the treatments are helping you. Cellcept can take longer to kick in than Pred but it is hard to tell which is making you better. Sometimes doctors only try one drug at a time to see if it's working. Otherwise, it can be hard to tell which one is better for you.
Don't forget that you should be on calcium and Vitamin D3 (at the same time) while on Pred. Don't take that at the same time as any vitamin C, in tablet form or via food like citrus (it won't absorb as well). And since Pred is an antiprostaglandin, having good prostaglandins daily like walnuts, flax oil, olive oil, etc. is a good idea. Run anything by your primary doctor too. I'm glad you're still "squirrley" because attitude helps so much with MG. ![]() ![]() Annie |
