Default should my neuro? prednisone question

Quick question my neuro is starting to lower my prednisone. I am at 60mg have been on that since March 18th. He is lowering by 10mg alternating days so even days I do 60 and odd I do 50 every 2 weeks I lower the odd days by 10 more. Should he have given me or should I ask for a 10mg prednisone? Because cutting them in half is more than a pain its not too safe or would cutting my 20mg be ok?

Either way is fine. Buy a pill splitter for easier cutting. Accuracy isn't too big of a deal for the "low" day.

Congrats!

First be thankful that you don't have to take prednisone for a long period of time. I have been on it for 3 years and it has done damage to my body.

The question would be how many tablets can be prescribed for a one month period. That might be a question for the pharmacist.

Good luck with your progress once you're off this horrible drug.

O, I thank God that my neuro is tapering me down already. He said it's not doing much for me. He is hoping that the azathioprine starts kicking in soon, I only began that the 8th of this month. I haven't been waking up and not being able to swallow my pill thank God for that too, not being able to lift your head without a struggle...feels great too...I'm just going to cut them in half, no biggy. I couldn't imagine being on prednisone for 3 years, or more. I feel for anyone that is on prednisone or has to take it because it really wreaks havoc with your mind and body.

Cutting your 20 mg is just fine...but, if you do feel better to have the accurate 10 mg (or 5 mg so you can take 2 of those), just ask! You are never annoying if you ask your doctor for these kind of simple changes.
I mean, it's so simple for your doc, I'm sure he/she won't mind: and you might feel much better (mentally) if you take accurate dosages.

However, please keep in mind that prednisone needs a close watch; so if you have pills with 20, 10 and maybe even 10 mg, it can be easier to mess up (if you are so familiar with taking 3 pills, there is a change you take 3 times 10 mg or something like that).

Anyway, I always use the 5 mg, even if I'm on high dosages, because I take them early in the morning, and well...it's a big difference if you take 8 pills with 5 mg each, or 8 pills with 20 mg each!

Ah, well, I would recommend staying with 1 pill, so you won't mess up so easily.
Good luck tapering down! Hope the aza will kick in soon.
