Okay this is a personal question for ya ladies that are on prednisone. Are your menstrual cycles affected because I have not had mine since I was in the icu which was back in mid march. Neuro told me I need a gynacologyst but isn't it a prednisone side effect? Any one else have a really delayed period?

I was only on 4 days of prednisone (horrible side effects and weakness, so I didn't take it long).. it messed up my cycle that month... so, I would imagine longer would affect it even more so..

It can happen, but not having a period in the absence of pregnancy is not a serious thing, unless you are trying to get pregnant! I used to have amenorrhea when I was younger and the general rule was to "see about it" after 6 months or so of no period. The gyno will likely only give you hormones to induce a bleed, and the hormones of course have the potential to aggravate the MG. If you are in your mid-late 40's you could be peri-menopausal and missed cycles are also common.

It's funny how neuros just don't want to get involved with anything having to do with anything other than the MG! Once I mentioned I was having lots of migraines to my MG neuro, and she told me to see a neuro! LOL

hmm, wow. lol one doctor tells ya to go to the other. It can be an endless cycle I guess. Lets see, I am 31. The missed periods may be due to the stress levels I had been in too because of the whole hospitalization dying thing. I am seeing a hematologist for my anemia so perhaps I could ask her tomorrow. But It is a side effect of the prednisone so it could be the stupid 60mg of that crap daily. Thanks for all your replies, because to be honest I don't mind not having that period. lol, the horse is the period. lol

Hello Huntress Yes, this can be a side effect of prednisone. I recommend that you listen to your neuro because h/she is saying that it's always wise to check things out.
