Oh, I forgot one thing. The new neuro thought I had a peripheral neuropathy related to another autoimmune disease, besides MG.

The possibiity of myasthenia gravis remission is always there.
In my opinion - the possibility of a semi-remission, MG symptoms greatly improved while on medication is a stronger possibility. I know, I have been there, using prednisone and cellcept. (And of course, always, Mestinon). (Currently dealing with MG exacerbation, (due to another medical problem) but getting stronger - slowly but surely). NEVER GIVE UP HOPE!!!!!! :grouphug: However; I personally would give up a doctor who laughed at my question(s). It doesn't matter what my question was/is; I expect respect from my physicians and/or other medical professionals. I extend my respect and courtesy to them (unless mistreated). And then, if I have been mistreated (e.g., treated disrespectfully) - I seek out another physician. Thankfully, I have had to do this only once since diagnosed with MG. Medical professionals are trained not to judge; laughing at a patient's question(s), (in my opinion) is extremely judgmental and non-professional. THUMBS DOWN on this situation. Best of luck to you. |
I also had an initial Dr that IMO was not knowledgeable about MG. I was with him for a good year, but finally switched and went to a Dr about another hour away, but he was worth it. I did have a thymectomy (no tumor, but it was overactive (hyperplasia)). I no longer take Mestinon. I had received IVIG treatments, but no longer do. I still take cellcept but that's my only drug I am on. I am in remission now with no symptoms. However, in my opinion, for myself, besides having MG. I also had a poor diet, I didn't exercise, I weighed too much, I was sedentary. I overworked myself. In short I was a physical mess. Over the last few years I've really changed my life. I've lost about 100 lbs, I eat real well now, I exercise 5-6 days per week. I alternate between weight lifting and cardio. Usually working for about an hour per each workout. I also take a ton of supplements. Borage Oil, Fish Oil, vitamins, herbs etc etc. I personally don't think it's any one thing that got me better. I think it's a combination of things. However, I put food\supplements near the top of the list for myself.
