Default Root canal tomorrow...anything I should watch out for?

Hi! I'm having a root canal done tomorrow. Is there anything I should be sure to avoid? I know that in the past, I had to have my dentist stop using Novocain. My system couldn't seem to handle the adrenaline.

I'm always so leery...I never assume anymore that medical people know anything about MG.

My health has been rotten for a couple of months now. It's like everything stopped working. My rheumy thinks it may be related to stress (I've got PTSD), but I don't know.. He hates that I have to get a root canal due to the stress that goes with it, but knows it can't be avoided. Ugh..

Any advice?

Default Hi crmak

Hi, and I hope all goes OK for you tomorrow. Hope you will spend a few moments to read some of the comments on the dental forum. RC is a very discussed topic on that forum. Bryanna was in the dental field for many years, and has a lot of good information on that subject. ginnie

There's a dental forum? Awesome, thank you! I had no idea. And thank you, too, for the well wishes. I appreciate it.

The dentist can give you novocaine without epinephrine. It will take longer to start acting so he should inject you about a half hour before the procedure and let you sit until it works. Tell them you are allergic to epinephrine - this happened to me and I thought I was going to have a heart attack as my heart would not stop racing. It was very scary and I will never use epinephrine again. Good luck

Thanks so much. It's so funny you posted this, because I found it last night, put it on my phone and had my dentist read it today before he started.

Default Update

Thank you, everyone, for your advice. Everything went well today in regards to my root canal. He gave me carbocaine (sp?). We were afraid it wouldn't work for awhile. It took a LONG time and tons of extra injections, some directly into the root of the tooth itself, before finally I was numb enough to be worked on. It was crazy. I had enough to numb an elephant!

But after it finally worked, it all went smoothly. I'm just taking advil or tylenol for the pain.

Again, thank you all so much for your advice and well wishes. It truly meant a lot. It's nice to know there is a place I can come where I know people really understand.
