I live in Nevada and just found out this morning while watching the news we have a state exchange for enrollment. First I have heard of it and I do not know how it works. Maybe a lot of members know about state exchanges and how they work but I do not remember any posts about them. Maybe everybody going through this process knows that state exchanges not worth looking into.

Hi Scrubbs,
The way I understand it,...... the exchanges, both State and Federal (Federal for the states that declined to have their own exchange) have nothing to do with Medicare. It is strictly for Medicaid and private health insurance. Medicare is treated completely separately. Since you said you are on Medicare, you should not be affected. People with Part C, Medicare Advantage Plans, may be cancelled since they are handled by private insurance companies. |

The Affordable Care Act has requirements that crack down on shoddy old plans.
Some old individual plans do not satisfy some of the new rules. The plans either have to change to fit the new law or go out of business. -->>Wait until the third or fourth week in November when the web site will be working better before you sign up. In the meantime you can make a profile on the site and start reading about the new plans available to you. Pay attention to ~premium ~ deductible ~co-pays. Some plans are listed as Gold, Silver, Bronze. Gold for example might have higher premiums but low deductibles and lower/ no copays. You can choose between PPO and HMO I believe. Some states have greatly expanded Medicare to include working people. Florida has not. M |
