Default How often do u get CT scan of thymus and which dr orders the test?

After following the other thread ab thymus removal I am curious:

For those of u who had imaging done and thymus appeared unremarkable, how often are u going back for a repeat scan??

Second of all, my pulm ordered mine. Who is technically the thymus expert from a MD perspective? The thoracic surgeon? The neuro? Do all MGers see a thoracic spec?

The last one was ab 2 years ago. I try to be judicious ab radiation but maybe it's time for a look?

Love ur thoughts. Thanks.

My neurologist ordered the test. It really doesn't matter who orders it because it should be read by a board certified radiologist. The radiologist will make a decision as to what is or is not wrong and send a report to your doctor.

Mine was done 3 or 4 years ago. Was normal, so that's that. Never had a ct scan since, because (they told me): if the thymus is normal when you already have your diagnosis, it stays normal.
I do not know if this is indeed true, but I never had a scan since, and never seen a surgeon, never an operation. I asked about it a year ago, they told me once again: it was normal years ago.

What a coincidence, mine was ordered by the pulm too! It's like sb says, it doesn't matter, as long as a good radiologist takes a good look at it. I think most of the time, your neurologist will take a look at it too (mine did, so did my pulm).
