Default H1n1

I'm reading that this year's flu strain is H1N1 again. Like a handful of other people here, I got MG after a bout with H1N1 in 2009. I found this article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-12152500

Quote:
In beating a bout of H1N1 the body makes antibodies that can kill many other flu strains, a study in the Journal of Experimental Medicine shows.
That makes a lot of sense! I have the impression that when the immune system makes a lot of different antibodies at once, it's more prone to misfire and start attacking healthy tissue. That's why it's common for women to come down with autoimmune thyroid disorders after childbirth--it's a time when you're most prone to infection, so your immune system is spraying bullets all over the place.

Just speculating here.

Interesting! Thanks for posting that!!!

My kids both had Flu A (h1n1) 2 weeks ago.. I did not get the flu shot (I debated about it,, as last year getting it caused quite a bad exacerbation.. though I know that getting the flu would be bad too).. Anyhow.. they both coughed in my face and threw up on me too.. I just knew I would get it.. Shockingly I didn't actually get sick! I did feel bad and have a mild exacerbation (couldn't hardly swallow, breathing was not great and all over weak etc.) for a few days.. maybe I was fighting it off, or my immune system was stimulated..

But, I'm not sure why I didn't get it.. I seem to get everything nowadays.. Maybe some of the IVIG donors had antibodies and therefore protected me? I Hope the protection lasts!!

I also got sick post partum- good ol immune system went all sorts of haywire!
