Default azathioprine (Imuran)

Ive been on azathioprine since May 8th 2013. Tapering prednisone as of now been tough. But I have a question for those that take imuran or aza. How long till you notice a difference in MG symptoms? I know tapering prednisone can cause flares even if aza is working.

Thanks

Lisa

For me, tapering prednisone gave me worse symptoms than MG. I hope I never have to use it again! I do think my dr taperred it to fast and that is why I felt so bad. It took me 4 weeks to recover from each taper.

hang in there

My neuro wanted me to stay at 50/0 alternate days but I just couldn't do it. Ended up taking 10mg on my 0 days. I was getting so very weak especially in the tongue and my speech was bad. Really bad. Eating was becoming harder to. Its been 2 weeks since starting, 50/10mg. Feeling stronger in my tongue but the weakness is more in my arms and legs now. I started the 50mg in November down from 60mg. Since then it has been all downhill that's why I am wondering if azathioprine has even kicked in. How long does it take to adjust to the tapering of prednisone?

Each taper took me 4 weeks to adjust. So as soon as I was feeling stable it was time to taper again. I am down to 10 mg every other day and waiting for the cellcept to kick in be fore I go completely off prednisone. I have been on 10mg for a couple of months and I am stable there. I have been on cellcept for a month and I am beginning to see subtle improvement. The neuro think I will maintain these levels for 6 month and than can finish getting off prednisone.
