Have you ever had your breathing cut off completely and what is considered a breathing crisis?

I have had a couple of episodes, but they only lasted about 30 seconds. I laid down and it got better. I could breathe. It only happened when I pushed myself to keep going when it was already hard to breathe.

If I ever start getting short of breath more than usual, I stop what I am doing and give myself time to catch up.

I was just curious because like I have had problems chewing since 2006. mouth would get too tired and problems writing after a few minutes and these symptoms have never went away just have gotten worse. I have never heard of mg. Anyway last year I had an episode were I lost my breath completely and when it came back I was gasping for air. I crawled to my son and he said what is wrong what do I do. I'm not going to lie I was so scared. Then I got my air back. A few minutes later it happened again. Then I got better. I went to be later and woke up gasping for air so when I got my breath back that time. I called and ambulance. When they got there I seemed fine and they were going to leave me and I said no I want to get checked out. Then it happen in front of them so they took me. So when I got to hospital my oxygen was low but no lung infection so they game me breathing treatments and prednisone. Then a week later it happen again went back to another hospital, same thing. I have not had another episode like that but I get short of breath sometimes and my family does not understand it and I do not either because I do not have any lung problems. Classic MG symptom. More than two years before I was diagonalized, I got half way through a McDonald's Fish Flay once and could not finish. I was OK when started, but with even an assist with my hand under my jaw, I could not finish.

I know and I hate it. I once went a week without eating much and lost 9 pounds in one week and I was so scared so when I was able to eat. I ate everything that I could. I said I would not take anything for granted again.

I too have lost a lot of weight, but I had a lot to loose. Friends ask how I did. I respond: I'm on the Myastheni Gravis Diet, but I DO NOT recommend it.

I have had periods of weight loss as well with this...since on IVIG I stabilized though.. but during exacerbations, I won't be able to swallow well, therefore can't eat, drink or take pills well.. I usually am super careful for a few days or week, then get my IVIG and then I'm good again! getting a cough or something where I Have to clear my throat often will wear down my throat quicker if I''m on the back end of my IVIG.. i have to rest and not clear my throat or cough if possible and will be better after 20 min or so.. fun stuff!

Yes, you can just stop breathing - don't mean to scare anyone, but don't take it for granted either. 3 years ago I had bad problems with kidney stones that resulted in massive infections in my bladder and kidneys. I was feeling very weak and was almost unable to move - breathing was okay as long as stayed sitting up. Long story short - ended up in ICU because of the infection and stopped breathing that night. My diaphragm just quit working - ended up on a ventilator for 7 days. Every time they tried to wean me off, I stopped breathing.

I have gone to the ER several times with breathing issues and was able to recover when they let me use a bi-pap for several hours (a breathing mask that aids your breathing in and out to give your diaphragm a chance to rest). I have a c-pap at home (aids in breathing in), but sometimes that just isn't enough.

I'm not trying to scare anyone, I'm just saying, don't take it lightly when you are having difficulty breathing with mg - If I hadn't been in ICU that night I stopped breathing, I would have died. It was a close call. In 5 minutes my oxygen sats went from 93 to 39. If I had been in a regular hospital room without close oxygen monitoring, I would probably have died.

That is scary. I have heard of that kind of thing. If I stop breathing out here on the farm, I don't think I'll make it. Too far from medical care.
