Heather, What is your support system like at home?

Learning to adjust to your new normal and a lower amount of stress and activity is crucial to prevent exaccerbation of MG. Although MG throws your life into chaos, there is a lot in your control that you can do to manage it better. Stressing just makes it worse.

Every part of my life has changed. My MG is much worse than when I started, but my life is under control and I function through a normal work week and give the appearance of normal.

I lower my thermostat because heat just makes it worse. So that means I also take lukewarm showers, wash the dishes in luke warm water, wait until the laundry cools to fold it. I do 15 minutes of activity and 15 minutes of rest. I go up and down steps only once a day. I careful plan my day to minimize walking. When I cook, I make double to freeze it. I make food, that can be left to cook on it own so I do not have to stand over a hot stove. I make food that is easy to chew and swallow. Try to do everything you can do to save your energy, and pace your activities.

I was diagnosed only a year ago, my daughter is 15. But I think I started with MG 16 years ago when I was pregnant. I was on bed rest for my last trimester for hip weakness and mobility issues. In retrospect, I think this was when my MG started. They blamed it on sciatica.

Take good care of yourself,
kathie
