Default Help MG and Pregnant

My docs all thought I had ms I finally saw a neuro yesterday who said no way he's sent off bloods and getting tests set up to
Confirm MG. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and terrified. He gave very little away except for saying this was going to be very difficult and very complicated reregnancy. Has anyone experience similar to this?

If you truly have MG, I would suggest that you sit around with your feet propped up and rest. That is the best medicine for MG. You can most likely get your doctor to require it so that you won't get fired.

I hope that your pregnancy goes well. Best of luck.

I'm a full time mum now so work isn't an issue but I'm most concerned about the drugs they will be giving me and how safe they are.
Also the chances of myathesia crisis is really worrying.

Heather, I saw your post and read a little about MG and pregnancy. It sounds like you can do just fine but will need a neuro that understands med interactions well. Some of us think highly of large teaching hospitals that see many cases of MG and know all the in's and out's of MG. Good luck and keep us informed. Wishing you the best.

Sorry you have to go through this - especially while pregnant... I am not a confirmed case, but I get IVIG for my mystery illness, which they think might be LEMS/MG.. I noticed I was a little droopy faced at the end of my pregnancy with my son and weak at times, but thought it was just being pregnant with another kiddo that was under 16 months as well.. anyhow.. the biggest issue for me was immediately post partum (and I"m not sure if this is a common time for people with MG to worsen or not).. but we didn't know I was sick at the time, and we thought my body just reacted strangely to the epidural.. still don't know what the real cause of it was, but I had trouble breathing and couldn't move my muscles .. so just make sure if you get an epidural that the anesthesiologist knows and is familiar with MG.. and yes, rest as much as you can now!

I had to kick everyone out of the room, but me and my son when he was born, as I didn't know why i was feeling so weak, but I needed uninterrupted sleep.. (as much as one can get with a newborn).. I coudln't have my husband or dog also waking me up - so he was on duty with my daughter, while i attempted to rest

Did you have a muscle biopsy. I am just wondering because my neuro thinks that mine will show up this way so I am wondering if it will?

Default Pregnancy

"Myasthenia may improve, worsen, or remain unchanged during pregnancy and it is not uncommon for the first symptoms of MG to begin during pregnancy or postpartum . . . . abortion is rarely, if ever, needed because of MG and the frequency of spontaneous abortion is not increased."

For more details on MG and pregnancy see Myasthenia Gravis: A Manual for the Health Care Provider (PDF), page 25.

That's great info Panorama- thanks!

Yes, I had periods in my first pregnancy that I didn't feel great, and looking back at pics have some droopy eyelids.. post partum though my face and eyelids were noticably different.. I nose was droopy, eyes droopy and lips pushed out (upper lip, which I now know is what happens when my nose and face droop haha).. I thought it was some weird hormonal change causing swelling or something associated with breastfeeding.. then same thing happened after my 2nd pregnancy post partum, and well when it also became apparent I wasn't just a little tired.. I don't think pregnancy is so easy on the body, or lack of sleep, but thank goodness for modern medicine! ... and it's all so worth it too!

I was comforted reading the line that "abortion is rarely, if ever, needed because of MG and the frequency of spontaneous abortion is not increased."

I think you will do fine just so you respect your body when it tells you to rest. Keep us informed.
