Default New Neurologists

I had my first meeting with my new neurologists since leaving the hospital. He wants me to have one more day of IVIG on September 2nd, with a follow up meeting two weeks later.

He also ordered blood work:
  • Basic Metabolic
  • B12
  • Hemogram
  • Hemoglobin

Most of the meeting was just talking about managing my disorder, the first neurologist I have met that really understand the managing issue. He really knows and understands MG. I cannot tell you what a relief it is to finally find the MG coach I have been seeking.

Unfortunately, he is 10 years older than I. Depending upon his skill as physician, I might out live him.

Default Cooling Strategy

My new neurologist suggested a cooling strategy when feeling oppressed from the heat. He said to breath in fast to cool the body's core interior. I said, "do you mean pant like a dog?" He smiled in the affirmative.

I have not had the opportunity to test this strategy, but will do so when the need arises.

Wouldn't that be akin to hyperventilation. I keep getting told to breath more slowly and deeply.

Don't you just love the rare event of talking with a doc you feel comfortable with and who understands your illness?

I hope he can stay your neurologist for a while, even though he isn't the youngest.

I was out and about in 80 degree temperatures today and gave it a try. When I felt the heat I took 5 or 6 deep, quick breaths out of my mouth. It seem to help.

Dr. Guisado also mentioned a concern with stomach acid. Both in the hospital and during our meeting, he asked about any abdominal pain. I have none, but he said that one does not necessarily feel pain, even with a developing ulcer. He prescribed 40 mg Pantoprazole. Are stomach issues common for MG patients?

It is 81 degrees, at 3:30 p.m., in the middle of August. Normally it is well into the 90s this time of the year, without any real cooling at night.

This year we have had mild temperatures, particularly at night. It drops into the mid-60s at night.

So sorry you have to deal with 100 degree temperatures. Does it cool off at night?
