Help Enterovirus D68 Precautions

I'm sure you guys have already read about this "new" virus, but it's worth repeating. Since it is affecting the lungs in most people, it's one we MGers need to be particularly cautious about.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/11/health...html?hpt=hp_t2

It's obviously spreading beyond the "midwest," since it might now be in Alabama and a few other states. It does seem to affect children more, but that might be due to the fact that their immune systems aren't fully developed. In that case, it'll probably affect those who are immune compromised or the elderly, too. And those with asthma or other lung issues.

Get some Cold-Eeze, vitamin C, chicken soup, Purell, and anything else you might need, in case you acquire this virus. Hand washing is a great preventative medicine.

AND see your primary doctor at the first sign of symptoms. Don't wait!

Or just stay home and away from people!

I believe the first person who died from H1N1 had MG, I had my immunoglobulin levels checked. I am so immunosuppressed my immunoglobulin levels are less than half the lower limits of normal. And my daughter came home from school with a cold yesterday. I was never afraid of catching a virus before my 2 hospitalizations with MG breathing issues.

I am recovering from two back to back colds/coughs right now.. it's so miserable.. and I can't swallow very well and breathing is affected.. it is so anxiety provoking! I get weak the day or two before I realize I am coming down with something.. My muscles start acting funny and I know something is up.. I dislike germs.. A lot!

The EV-D68 virus is now in Philadelphia, PA. I also heard there are suspected cases in Delaware and Ohio. The hospitalized children in PA are at Children's hospital of PA (CHOP). I have to take my daughter there next week. The hospital sent me a letter about not bringing children to the hospital unless they were a patient, to call if my child had fever, etc in hopes of controlling the spread of the virus.

Kathie, I hope you can get your daughter in, yet still keep her clear of the virus! Wear a mask. It might look stupid, but that's better than not breathing well.

bny806, Go to your doctor!

Guys, if you have symptoms, you're supposed to head to the doctor immediately. We're in a high risk group, as are those with COPD, asthma, etc.

Did you know that space is replete with viruses and bacteria? How much makes it down to earth, I wonder.
