Default Is it possible to have LEMS and MG?

Hi guys,
Haven't posted for a while- been busy with the holidays, a 9 day hospital admission with plex and now first course of therapy with IVIG. While I was getting infusion, I started poking around on you-tube and listened to a podcast about medications for MG and LEMS (most of which are similar). Before the docs got into the meds, they discussed some of the symptom differences between MG and LEMS.

I was diagnosed with MG with ACh mod antibodies of 85% (less than 30 normal reference range). I have not had additional testing done (except CT for thymoma). My MG progressed differently than normal in that my weakness started in my legs, then progressed to arms and bulbar. My breathing is affected and I'm constipated (even on Mestinon).

I see that LEMS attacks the nerve calcium channel blockers and MG attacks the muscle receptor side of the same process. Theoretically then, it seems possible to have both??

Yes.

It would be rare, but possible.

There are signs on a RNS that would be present in LEMS, but not MG.

There are blood tests for LEMS they can do.

Drink more water and increase your fiber for the constipation. Flax seeds help, quinoa, more veggies, etc.

Sorry to be short, but I don't have a lot of time today.

Anyone else have any input (please)?

Annie

Default Constipation

If constipation continues to be an issue, have MD write RX for Linzess. It works really well for chronic constipation.
