Default Is IVIG covered by Medicare

I have been receiving IVIG for over 3 years when I had private insurance, but I am now on Medicare. Does anyone know if Medicare Part B covers IVIG for Myasthenia Gravis? If yes, do they cover it if it is given in the home? Thanks for your help.

I've been on medicare for 4 years and they have covered my IVIG from the beginning. It is covered under Part B and if you have supplemental insurance, everything is covered 100% (depending on your supplemental coverage). I have Plan F and it covers everything Medicare doesn't cover for Parts A and B.

I'm not sure about giving it at home. I have always done it at an Infusion center at the local hospital.

Good luck!

Medicare and part B will pay for IVIG depending on the diagnosis. MG is covered but the doctor has to submit continuing proof of necessity and documentation to CMS. Medicare will only cover IVIG in the home for myasthenia if you are a homebound patient. You must report to an outpatient infusion center for 100% coverage if you have myasthenia and can get to an outpatient setting. If they do cover in the home they will cover the drug only and you will end up paying for the nursing care and supplies on your own if part B refuses to cover it. If you have Immune Deficiency Disease home infusion is covered. It would be very convenient to have it in the home but safety wise I feel comfortable going to the hospital. I have been doing this weekly for 6 years and it has given me my life back. Read the booklet In print or online that Medicare sends out - there is a section on IVIG and that might help.

Yes, covers in home care; or should. I've been getting at home with Medicare.
