When you feel sickly but don't technically have a fever or obvious cold signs?
I feel feverish because my temp is elevated above my personal normal, but it is below 99. I also have the general malaise, shakiness and fatigue that comes with infection, but not any other respiratory or throat symptoms. Do I just try to rest it off, do I contact my brand new pcp office that doesn't know me from Adam? What would/could they do anyway? Thanks for any advice and your suppirt while I continue to wait for a referral to a new neuro. |

Look over your entire body. Is there an infected cut? Might you have the beginnings of toxic shock syndrome? Have you been bitten by some little critter? Please do not take those symptoms lightly! I would go to urgent care and be seen right away, if it were me. I've known too many situations that become worse that are seemingly benign.
There are things that doctors notice that we might not. The best place for you is with a doctor right now. And anything else going on will make MG worse. I hope you'll be okay! Annie |

Hi MG_Kat33,
Did you arrange an appointment with your PCP or maybe go to urgent care? I hope you will keep us posted about how things are going for you. I live in California, one state away from you. We've been having a heat wave, and I suspect you might be having experiencing it also. This might be affecting your MG. While you are waiting to see your doctor, make sure your home is cool enough for you. Limit the amount of time you spend outdoors in the heat - if you have to go out, try to do things in the morning when it is cooler. Rest as much as you can. Make sure you stay well-hydrated. I rest with my back against ice-packs when I am feeling too warm, and it helps. You can also wet down your hair, for instance, and it can help to cool you down as it evaporates. I hope you start feeling better soon! Take care, Erin |

Yeah, you could have dehydration over heat exhaustion. But only a doctor can tell you that for sure! Good point, Erin.

Thanks. I drink 2 28oz water bottles plus at least8oz for breakfast, lunch and dinner, so I don't think its dehydration. I stay inside, mostly, too
Tried calling my new pcp but had to leave a message and of course nobody responded. Going to go to an urgent care this afternoon and see what they say. It's hard because I have little to go on other than "I feel hot to myself, have fatigue and generally feel crummy. Can you help me?" |

Kat, Are you one of those people who has to know the end of the movie before watching it?!
I've gone in many times with symptoms that aren't necessarily clear. That's why doctors went through 8+ years of schooling! They can often come to conclusions that we can't. You aren't on Pred, right? Your symptoms also remind me of someone with lupus or Addison's disease. Or lots of other things! Be on the watch for any other symptoms. I hope they can figure out what is going on! Annie |

Update: probably a mix of psychosomatic issues and a mild virus. Went to Urgent Care, saw a PA (bless) and they were kind enough to take my immunosuppression seriously and run blood tests even though I didn't have a fever, cough, congestion, etc.
Everything came back in normal range... which is highly suspicious. My WBC SHOULD be elevated because I am on prednisone. So I suspect a mild viral infection plus anxiety and depression. Everything else was within normal ranges and I have been feeling better yesterday and today. I had already rested all day Thursday, most of the afternoon and evening Friday and was pounding vitamin C and zinc, and always take a lot of vitamin D anyway. Every week is a roller coaster, recently. I'm not sure anyone without a chronic illness can understand how long a month can be, heh. Last edited by MG_Kat33; 08-06-2017 at 09:13 PM. |

Kat, Really? Just because they didn't find anything, you think this is part psychosomatic?
Okay, so you're on Pred. The drug is doing the job of the adrenals. That means that when you don't have enough sleep, are tired, stressed, etc., you are more prone to adrenal insufficiency symptoms. What are those symptoms? Fatigue, being more hot, sweating, and feeling out of it. Craving sodium can be another sign. Jet lag after being a long way from home can cause the adrenals to tank as well. I think you need to give yourself a break!!! Lots of changes lately and a lot of stress. The adrenals can't kick in and help you anymore, as they would normally do. I don't recommend this, but I bet a 1 mg. increase during stressful times would help those symptoms. DO NOT do anything like that without speaking to a doctor!!! My friend Sheila would have episodes like that (more severe). She would increase her Pred (with the doc's permission) and would be better. Also, MG is odd. A person can do something on a Monday, be a bit worse on Tuesday, and then tank on Wed. There is a cumulative effect with MG. That's why they say that the only thing predictable about MG is its unpredictability. Whether that is what is going on or not, I doubt that it's nothing. You have gone through quite a bit here lately and need to rest a lot!!! Give yourself time to adjust. Be kind to yourself. If you don't get better, talk to a neuro or PCP.
