We are being herded to generics like cattle. lol
Does anyone have experience with the generic PB? After 19 years of Mestinon (brand version), I am probably going to have to use a generic. The costs have become prohibitive. Either that or Huperzine A! I would appreciate any insights. Since that is the only drug I can take, I'm a bit concerned about switching. Someone from my insurance company actually left a message and used the military alphabet to sound out Pyridostigmine Bromide (generic) to me. Laughed so hard!!! lol Thanks for any input you can give me. Real experiences are better than PubMed articles. Annie |

Annie,
Good to have you back. I’ve taken the generic for years. In fact I think that is all I have taken. Same as branded, takes about a half hour to kick in and lasts about 4 hours. I also have a cup of coffee every morning. My MG is not as bad as yours, so now I take it 3 times a day. It is now the only medication I take along with IVIG every 4 weeks, soon to be every 5. Jim |

I use the generic also. Seems to work like it should.
Having a prescription for 5x a day, 90 days at a time, my former foolish pharmacy put 450 pills in a giant pill bottle with no dessicant. We refused to accept, and make them give me 4 sealed manufacturer bottles of 100 (as the manufacturer makes and sends them) and then the additional 50 pills in a pharmacy bottle WITH a dessicant pack inside. I use up the 50 pills first, then go to the sealed bottles. Since I don't always use 5 pills a day (terrible at keeping track of the time, and when just worn out and sitting back watching TV late in the day, often just plain forget), this means that I have created a backlog supply of pills, factory sealed and good all the way to the factory expiration date, should I ever have trouble with getting doc to refill, or insurance, or pharmacy problems. |

It is my understanding that Inactive ingredients such as binding agents, fillers, and preservatives can be different in generic medications as long as the active ingredient is the same. Some people react to those inactive ingredients, most do not.
