Unhappy just another day

Im sitting here trying not to cry, having a rather bad day, so I thought I'd sit and talk to you people, cos you always make me feel better when Im down, and Id rather get things of my chest than not.
About two weeks ago I went and saw my GP, he informed me he had tested me for potassium, and mine was low, and he wanted me to start on tablets, and increase foods with it in it. He also explained why it was important to take it, as if it is low it can cause heart fibrilations tiredness and muscle weakness, at this one we looked at each other and laughed!!
Today I just feel awful everything is such and effort, even typing, and Im frustrated, just when everything seems to be going well, something else comes along to mess it up.
Im going to see my neuro at the end of next week, which I'm not looking forward to, as he makes me do the chicken dance, tries to pull my eyelids apart, then tells me Im doing fine!! Maybe compared to others I am, but compared to me, well I think I've been better.
Sorry to complain, I hope you are all doing ok, and the year ahead brings us all a little better health.
take care

Hi Redtail,

Sorry if my previous post posted, and it wasnt complete, I am new here, and hit enter and it sent it, sorry. But I am sure am not new to MG. My potassium has been LOW for years now. I am currently taking 80 MEQ's, of potassium a day. I have been in out and out of the hospital for years now, and most of the times, when I am in crisis and very sick, my Potassium is nil to non. I do not know what causes this, nor has anyone really told me. I do not know if its the medications, or just the fact that my body does not like it and gets rid of it. I had faced low potassium before my MG meds, so to be honest I do not know what causes it. I hope you feel better soon.

Maddy

I wouldn't consider that complaining. It's always nice to get things off your chest and just talk about it. It's even nicer to talk about it when people you know or in a community such as this one knows what your talking about more. When I get tired or weak it bothers me quite a bit as well but I try to think of the possitives of what it has actually done for me and that knowing if I needed to talk or just let something out someone would be around to listen whether it be here or a friend. Everyone has their good days and bad days and you just have to stick through it and think positive and have happy thoughts even though I know it is hard sometimes.

Thank you both so much, am feeling a bit better. Saw my neuro, he said the meds wouldn't be causing the low potassium, but wasn't sure what may be. At least he dropped my pred down!!!!!!!!!!, Im hoping for no double vision, as this is what usually happens when I drop below 20mg alternate days!!, I'm being positive, it won't happen!

Hiya Redtail,

You have visited my posts before (bobcat) and you have really been inspiring for me! You bring so much encouragement and a good bit of hope too! Sorry you are having such a rough time of it. I know to some degree how you feel. When I was in the hospital with breathing problems my potassium levels dropped a lot and i had to drink this emergency potassium supplement to bring them back up. Talk about a nasty taste >> Hope that things get better for you and thanks so much for visiting my posts. You are so nice!

Thanks so much, Iam doing much better now, although I'm so very tired, which is a symptom of low potassium, but at least I know it will get better.
And I've had some good news, Im moving into a unit of my own(Im staying with my Mum at the moment) which is small and has a small garden, easy for me to look after. They are generally for older people, but the commity decided because I had MG and couldn't cope with a house they would let me put my name down for one, and Im starting to move in tomorrow YAY
Its fairly new and has airconditioning!!!! which is good in all this heat we've been having.
