Default Painfull Knees

Hi, I'm new to this but would like advice about what maybe is just arthritis as my Dr has told me? After 9 months of double vision which stopped me working as a driver i was diagnosed with MG, my Dr said i was the first person he has seen with it. I was put on mestinon 60mg 2 x a day, vision did inprove for a few days then all of a sudden i got burning pains in both my knees, I went back to the Dr who said its arthritis, which confused me a little as i have never had any prblems with my knees. I have also become very tired after doing things like gardening, all my energy seems to have gone.

Has anyone experinced these kind of symptons?

Thanks Alan

Smile Welcome!

First and foremost, let me welcome you to this web site! It has truly been a God send for me..........You will find that everyone here is really wonderful and caring.........Now as for your knees, I have not had that problem, but I have had problems with extreme fatigue. Please, please do NOT overdo it! When you feel weak/tired the thing to do is simply rest! MG is a really tricky disease in that most of the things that help others make us worse - exposure to sunlight/heat (if you are on steroids), exercise, etc, so the key really is to not overwork yourself or work through it - you will not feel better after it. I am not trying to be a downer, and believe me when I say that it is better you get diagnosed, that way you can keep it order control..........

You may need other meds/treatments if/when you feel worse. It may just stay where it's at now. Everyone who has this disease suffers in different ways......the key is to get a GREAT neuro who really listens and cares.

Mg usually effects women in there 30's-40's and men over 60 - usually. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule........

I am 34, and was diagnosed in March - had my thymus removed in April. I have had to go back a few times for IV IG and plasmaphoresis, but feel so much better than I did! I work and live a normal life - for the most part. There are days when I am tired and do not get off the sofa, then there are days when I feel I can do anything - MG is a day to day thing.

The great thing is that this our disease CAN BE CONTROLLED for the most part! You've already found a GREAT site to talk with others.

Takce care!

Hi Alan,
Welcome! Muscle fatigue is a definite symptom. I've not had any pain in my knees, but some in my feet. I think it is unrelated to my MG though - I think I just am starting to get some arthritis (I'm only 29, but my family has a lot of arthtitis in it). My muscles get sore sometimes if I over do things and I get bad muscle cramps (I think that is related to my steriod prescription and the related minerals they absorb - potassium and calcium). The double vision is annoying eh? I was doing some archery on the weekend and I was really worried that I was going to end up really hurting the sheep who were quietly grazing in the field behind the targets. Thankfully all survived (I even managed to hit the centre of the target.... once).

Hope that helps a bit.. no real information for you, but sometimes it is nice to hear about someone elses experiences!

Smile Trust me - you are not being lazy!

Hello again Alan! Trust me when I say I that you are not being lazy! You NEED to rest and relax - you'll feel much better when you do!

Today has been knid of a rough day - my son got into a fight @ school and is going to be in ISS Tuesday and Wednesday and we have been moving offices all day - I'm just numb right now!

Granted it will be great when it's all said and done, but I am not looking forward to next week and more unpacking!!!

How are you feelin today? Are you OK? Let me know when you get some time!

In the meantime, try and rest - easier said than done, I know!

Erin

Smile That sounds wonderful!

Hi Alan!
What a wonderful day! It sounds fantastic! Is the weather pretty there? We are finally getting a break in the heat! Texas is not the place to be if you have MG - too darn hot! Anyway, we have had nights in the 60's which is a huge change - 80-90 degrees on average - and highs in the 90's, still the Texas heat is not fun........

Where do you live? I live in San Antonio, Texas and regardless of what you may have heard, we are not a group of people saying "dang" and "ya'll" and wearing 10 gallon hats and chewing tobacco.........It isn't cosmopolitan, like other big cities, but that is what I love about it - it feels like a small town, even though we have almost 2 million people living here, but it still feels small - all of the people are very sweet and courteous

I have had a GREAT time with my 16 yr. old! He is just the cutest kid ever! I am so happy to have him - he keeps me in stitches! His name is Devon James and he is the love of my life! We are somewhat similar in temperment - both quiet and shy - but have have the same sort of dark humor. My disease has been so hard on him! He has a really tough time dealing with me being so sick, but has really matured and become much more empathetic towards others. I just know that he is going to be a great father/husband someday - though hopefully not soon.................

Thank you so much for the update! I really enjoy hearing from you! Keep it up!

Take care!
Erin

Smile Hello again!

Hi Alan!

Thanks for letting me know how you are doing........You have 4 children? What a blessing! I cannot imagine my life without my son! He is a handful, but well worth it! I don't know if I told you this yet, but last week he got in trouble @ school for fighting with another student. The other child just would not leave Devon alone and kept picking on him until Devon just unleashed and kicked his butt! I have no idea what the other kid was thinking - my son is now 6'3" and 164 lbs - all muscle - needless to say, Friday was a CRAZY day!

Then my dad stopped by the office (where we were still trying to set up) and wanted me to help with his social security stuff - he suffered a massive stroke July 17th - 5 yrs. ago and his speech is still affected - not fun I'm going next week to fight with s.s. to maintain his mere pittance that the gov. gives him.

I absolutely love England! Mike and I were there years ago and it was so lovely. We went around Xmas, so it was cold, but gorgeous! Of course, we just had to go see the world famous Harrod's - WOW!

I am now on the sofa watching Midsomer Murders and reading Agatha Christie - needless to say I love any/all things English.........

Have a great week!
Erin
